what to do-flooded?
I think I flooded it. Usually it starts everytime, but this time it was just cranking and I gave it gas a few times. Maybe more than a few. I can smell gas. How should I go about getting it started?

The best bet is to wait for 5 or 10 minutes then try again. If you're in a hurry, hold the throttle to the floor when cranking.
Before you try this though, take a good look at the fuel lines, to make sure the gas you're smelling isn't a fuel leak, which could have the same symptoms. |

I waited and got it started. It blew out a lot of black smoke at first. What does that mean?

That you are pretty well correct in your assumption that the truck was flooded.
If it happens again or often you will probably have to have the carb checked out and or rebuilt. |

black smoke means too much fuel... it was flooded.
