Dash ...feedback

I am trying to re-do my interior and need some advice with something, my dash. I have seen those hard shell covers that are supposed to fit right over your old stock dash. Some have that factory look and some I have seen have a more custom look. I just wonder if any of you have used or seen these used and could give me some feedback on them.Do they fit well over the dash or do they leave gaps were you can see the old dash in some places? Are they as easy to install as they make it seem in the adds? ect. Any advice on these type covers would be great. Thanks

Re: Dash ...feedback

I have a dash cover it fits ok, but the only thing that was wrong with my dash was speaker grilles were broke and there was few pen size holes, in a few Months the dash pad cover is coming off and the dash will be covered in blue vinyl to match the door panels

I have one of those, wish I didn't. The cover, mine anyway, bubbles up in the sun and generally looks like you know what. I'm going to live with it and buy a good aftermarket pad when everything else is finished.

Note: The cover I have came from Craig's List, never used, manufactured in 1994.Maybe the newer ones are better quality.

Re: Dash ...feedback

Thanks...I have seen some that were, like I said, more like the factory look from places like LMC and thought, well for the extra cash, I might as well just buy the actual dash pad instead of just the cover. The only reason I went back to considering the cover was, I got a new catalog from a place that specializes in custom truck stuff and they had some that looked pretty sharp. They have flames molded down the top of the dash cover. I think, IF it fits right, that it would look good and be different. I figure if I am going to do the whole interior, I would like to add some custom accents were ever I can to make it different instead of just going back with stock stuff.

Re: Dash ...feedback

I used one of those on a El Camino once. It worked but if you have high spots in the dash around the cracks you will need to fix those first. Also you can install it very nicely if you remove the dash and put it on. Just remember to drill the holes where you need to access screws when you reinstall the dash. I used a DashCap brand one and it looked just like a factory dash as far as the texture goes and can be easily painted. HTH.

Re: Dash ...feedback

I was in the same dilemma. My dash was totally cracked. I read some feedback on the plastic covers for the dash. Didn't hear to many good thing about it. So I checked out 73-87trucks.com and Chris had a OE GM dash. The only thing is you have to die/paint your color, but it's orginal and fit perfect. I looked at it as I don't want to have to do it again. Mike
