How do I: Take the glovebox door apart

If I wanted to replace the glovebox sheetmetal, and remove the door from the plastic box portion, how would I take the glovebox latch apart?

I poked at it a little bit, looking for some secret clip or release, but didn't see anything.

Anybody have experience with this?

Thanks in advance -

K

Thanks, Bob.

It might be a moot point, because I've already started filling holes and painting the one I've got. If it turns out decent I'll just use it.

But - I'd still like to know how to get it apart, just for knowledge's sake.

I would also like to know how to get this apart. On the 80 I just bought, someone had pried off the chrome front piece to the lock and I need to replace it but am having trouble.

There was a thread about this earlier this year. You push in on two clips (I believe) on the inside next to the plastic and turn the knob on the outside. I did this on mine, but it has been 2 years ago and I forget exactly how. I kow it takes 4 hands to get it.

I took mine to a locksmith who popped it out in less than a minute and didn't charge me a dime.

Does your's have a "keyed" lock on it?

Mine is just smooth (with a small pinhole)...

Re: How do I: Take the glovebox door apart

Guys, taking the latch off is super easy.

All you have to do is unscrew it from the inside of the glovebox liner. The actual knob has to be in either the open or closed position, I can't remember, but the inside latch will only spin in 1 of the 2 positions. When unscrewing it, simply pull back slightly, away from the knob...and it will simply unscrew.

No tools required.

I have dont no less than 10 of them this way, worked every time.

Re: How do I: Take the glovebox door apart

Done! Got it apart, painted, and back together this weekend.

It wasn't too bad, but did require a number of "practice" installations to develop enough confidence to try it out on the freshly painted part...
