Why my project sits untouched...

I travel a lot for my job and when I'm home, besides spending time with my wife and two young girls, church activities, and basic yard/home maintenance, I am working on my house and remodeling things. Thought I'd share a few pictures

Built this wall where there was a cheap wood railing. Added custom sized built-in niches with tile installed on the diagonal. Also added lighting. In the bottom corner you can see the laminate flooring and edging I installed on the steps as well to replace the nasty stained carpet. Not the best picture but gives you an idea

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

Here's some during including what was behind the wall. I originally was going to leave this bathroom for last, but when I tore out my master shower which backs up to the hall bathtub, I found this.........

Here's the way the wall tile looked before

Replaced the rotting drywall with Hardibacker

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

And the Hall bath afterwards....Ran the tiles to the ceiling, put a light over the tub that also doubles as an exhaust fan, tiled the floor, put a solid surface top and new faucet on the vanity, and new light over the mirror. I'm really happy how it turned out...

Here's the exhaust fan that looks just like a recessed light

Here's the floor

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

Here's the before pictures for my master bath. Never updated since the mid 70's.

First picture is looking into the room. I moved the doorway out three feet and put a new door in to make the bathroom larger and picked up wasted space. Here's the before

We didn't ever use this bath....note the storage of all the parts planned to go in there...plus other junk....

How about that floor....

Awesome light fixtures also....

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

Did you change the swing of the door in pic 3? Are you going to fill the bore and reverse it? Lots of work. Been there and sure I'll be back.

Ha,

I know exactly what you mean. I have been working on my house for 5 years now. It is like one big hotrod for sure.

With acreage also it really gets to be a lot. Not to mention content changes to the shop, and tools.

Id show you mine, but people would probably think it was weird and to modernish. (IS that a word)?

Looks great.

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

Some during pictures of the master bath....

Planning to fill in where the recessed medicine cabinet was (you can see how I relocated the switches and moved the door three feet back in this picture (door used to be next to the sink)

Demo is messy, but FUN

Some of the plumbing mocked up for the three body jets...

The new mirror/light with some of the tile on the wall

Progress....

The vanity/sink/faucet

I love how the floor came out. Those are glass tiles inlayed on the diagonal instead of just cutting the ends off the tile (read: much more work and much cooler look to me) Just needs grout now when the rest of the room is complete... You can see the extra three feet of space I picked up in the floor.

Thanks...you should post up some pictures sometime...I'm sure some will think my master is too modern with the clear vessel..it's also going to have a clear frameless shower door and clear shelving.

VA72C10,
Nice work ! I know first hand how much more work your dots are the way you did them. You did a great job with it. Just curious as to what you used for a shower pan ? It looks like a vinyl Pasco liner ? Again, Nice work

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

Now remember, It is still under construction.

Custom coper panels for new entry.

Here is the house with its termite damaged wings. Hard to see, but it was bad, under that siding. I had to rebuild them.

Replaced, still need to finish the s.s. trim.

Master bath tile detail. No other pics of that room, but the ladies drool over the shower.

The start of my wild front fence.Iris, my dog. Wanting me to finish her custom dog house. LOL
one of my past metal working remodel projects.

Anyway, you asked for it.

Another job, I did. It was a bit modern, and a lot custom.

If you want I will post more later, just not many pphotos on photobucket. I got 100000000's

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

See,

Told you it was off the wall, wild crazy artists house.

For giggles take a look at the 1000# front door project. It gets clad in copper, the next time I get a decent copper job, but here it is anyway.

It only took a bobcat two guys and stick welder to install. LOL

Thats it, I have hoooogggged up too much of you fine thread.

Off to work on this kids car project.

It is a vinyl sheet with the mud pan on top. It's the one and only part I had help with. Had a friend who does tile for a living come over to help me set the pan. I didn't want to go through all the work and have a small leak and have to tear it all out.

Yeah shower pans can be a little tricky if youve never installed before. They also make roll on waterproofing now a days. You roll on 2 coats of the goop with a paint roller, and it is waterproof. I prefer the vinyl pans myself. Real easy to work with. Hurry up and finish it now

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

I'm using the roll in waterproofing on the walls...especially the corners and the recessed niches I'm building. I've got three body sprays and a LARGE rain shower head so I want it watertight~

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

Sounds like its gonna work out great for you. I would go ahead and tile the ceiling to match the shower floor (if you hadnt planned it already) It wont be that hard and will really look great

Hei, where inK.C. do you live? It looks like midtown, but I would probably have seen your house if it was? Second guess is out of town a little?

Re: Why my project sits untouched...

Lot of great projects on this thread. Looks like some real talented people.

I was starting to feel I am the only one that does not have time to work on my project trucks because of non truck stuff.

I live on a farm, just over 100 acres, and seem to kept busy during the growing season working on it.

In the off season I am working on our house. I have been converting a 16' by 24' screen room into a craft room for some time now, years to be exact. Health reasons slowed the project for a while, but now I am doing better.

Any how I told my wife, I am turning 65 this year and have to finish her room soon so I can work on my two old trucks. I will just have to wait and see how things go, lol.
