Rear Mounted Gas Tank

I know this topic has been beat to death but here's what I did. My truck is a 63 1/2 ton step side. Gas tank that I used is a 16 Gallon Mustang tank. Lowere frame rails had to be cut 1 1/2 inches off each side to allow tank to slide in. I used 1 inch square stock screwed to the top frame rail and secured the tank to that with straps...see photo. All contact areas were rubber covered. Hope this helps..

Re: Rear Mounted Gas Tank

Looks good . What are you using for a sending unit? Will you fill through the bed floor or do you have room to turn it out and fill from outside the bed?

Re: Rear Mounted Gas Tank

Its a Ford sending unit modified to Chevy...No room to swing filler to the side so it will fill through the floor which will probably be diamond plate. I did the same with a 55 Chevy 1/2 ton ,Mustang tank and through the floor fill and was pleased with the results.

Re: Rear Mounted Gas Tank

Good idea and it looks slick...almost like it should have been there from the factory.
