Flex plate/starter question

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how many teeth my flex plate will have? Its a '69 350 with a TH350 behind it. Also has anyone used an ebay gear redustion/mini starter? I need to replace my starter for the usual reasons and I can get a good deal on a new one from a UK ebay vendor but its a no name brand job. Theres a british 0company that1 ma1kes them but the price is more than double at nearly £250 compared to £110 for the ebay one. Its not a daily driver so longevity is lkess of an issue.

Re: Flex plate/starter question

It should be 168 tooth.. one way to tell is to look at your old starter, if the mounting bolts are staggered on the nose cone its a 168 tooth.. if the bolt pattern is straight across its a 153 tooth..
I have not tried an ebay mini starter so I am of no help there..

Does it make a difference with a mini starter? Both jegs and summit don't seem to have different part numbers for the different tooth counts. I'll have a look at the old starter I have in the garage, I'm pretty sure from memory the bolt pattern is straight across. The starter I'm looking at says its for 168 teeth which is a bummer.

Re: Flex plate/starter question

Yep, definitely straight across so does this definitely mean its a 153 tooth flexplate?

Re: Flex plate/starter question

Straight across bolt pattern signifies that you have a 153 tooth flex plate. The starters that are out in the world are so varied in designs that you should look close to ensure that you are getting one that works for your application. Many starters have a "Dual" pattern so that you can bolt it appropriately for the 153 or the 168 tooth flex plates. It would be good to check beofre purchasing.

I am not sure what the E-bay world starters are like. I am using magnetic starters from Power Master and they are very good for my engines.
