Re: Vintage plates

Nice!

I do have to ask... did TX offer a red/white combo during '67 or just black/white?

If something happened to your black and white plates they were replaced with red and white

Re: Vintage plates

Bringing this one back from the dead...does anyone know if they have to be "Truck" plates or can they be any plate from 1967. Just curious before I locate/buy some 67 plates to have registered that don't have "Truck" on them. I'm in Texas, any idea anyone???

Re: Vintage plates

As far as I know if its a truck, it has to have truck plates. I got my 69 truck plates from a guy at the swap meet in Conroe a few months ago. He was from San Antonio, and had a HUGE assortment of matched un-circulated plates for almost all years in Texas. Mine still had the advertisement papers for the Texas Prison Rodeo stuck between them. I'm at work today, but when I get home I'll hunt up his business card with his phone number if you like.

Re: Vintage plates

No they DO NOT have to be a truck plate . Regular 1967 plates can go on a truck or a car . Truck plates can go on a truck or car . That's what i was told yesterday when i registered mine . Might confirm this with the states site , but it semms like alot of these ladies "never read the memo " . The red replacement plates are cool . Did they issue you the small tag for the corner bolt ? They gave me a window sticker on the last one . This one I got the small tag again .

They positively, absolutely have to be truck plates. Just as they do with today's plates for trucks. I wanted a set of the 1968 State Hemisfair plates for my truck and asked the seller off of ebay could I use them and he didn't know and told me to call my state DMV office. So, before I bought a pair of plates of ebay that would be useless I called Austin before I bought them and they told me they have to be Texas "TRUCK" plates if it's a truck. The Hemisfair plates were for cars only. Plus, truck plates have a different sequence of lettering and numbering from cars. Truck plates start with a number, then a letter followed by 4 numbers....(example = 2Q-3693.) Car plates began with 3 letters followed by 3 numbers....(example = KSJ-647.)

Here's a good deal. I got my 68 plates new and unused off of ebay as well. This is one heck of a deal.

Re: Vintage plates

I have the old Black and Yellow Arizona 69 plate on my '70. If you can find one here that has a number not in use, you can use it on a 69-72 vehicle by paying the $25 annual vanity plate fee.

Re: Vintage plates

I like the red ones. don't see them much
There was 2 trucks back in the early 80's in Texas that had the same plate numbers on them. I had one of them. They made me buy new ones since I bought mine after

I believe you were told wrong . I stand with my first statement .

Texas Transportation Code
Title 7, Subtitle A, Chapter 504 (c)

Sec. 504.502. CERTAIN EXHIBITION VEHICLES; OFFENSE

(c) A person eligible for the license plates may instead use license plates issued by this state in the same year as the model year of the vehicle and approved by the department, provided that a passenger car must bear passenger car or truck license plates and a truck must bear passenger car or truck license plates. The department may require attachment of a registration insignia to the license plate in a manner that does not affect the display of information originally on the license plate.

Re: Vintage plates

I bought these 68 plates off ebay. Growing up in east Texas thought it would be cool wall art. Didn't think fifteen dollars was bad for a couple of beat truck plates. Who know might even use them one day. The 68 plates would be for my son project and the 65 plate would have been for mine but the po only had the one plate.
