67 Engine Tower(mount) differences

I have 67 Chevy that originally had a I-6 with standard trans. About 15 years ago pulled the I-6 & trans in favor of a small block and TH400 trans. I don't remember exactly what i did, but looks like i just opened up the holes on the engine tower to bolt the small block in. I also just modified (welded mount) to stock trans crossmember.

I'm now planning on going to a big block and either staying with the TH400 or putting in a Overdrive trans(i have one i think is 700r4, but have to verify it).l

So what i'm looking for is the difference between the different Engine tower(motor mounts) and trans crossmembers. Is that a site that show and explains the differences. Or a supplier that shows the different mounts. Also do you know who sells the big block towers?

Thanks

Re: 67 Engine Tower(mount) differences

Anyone have an side by side photo's of the different engine towers? or just some photos of towers that you know what they are?

I plan on going to a salvage yard this weekend that i know has some 67-72 trucks. I was hoping that i might be able to find some big block mounts, but don't want to get the wrong ones? Also i've been informed that the 72 big block towers are different than the 68-71 towers? Is this true and again how do i tell the difference? or how do i identify a 72 from a 68-71 truck?

Thanks

Re: 67 Engine Tower(mount) differences

Theres a pic of the 68-71 BB towers in this thread, and how to use with the cheaper SB mounts. The 72 mounts are clamshell type like 73 and up. There is a FAQ on using the 73 and up clamshells but the pics are missing. You have to redrill some holes.

Re: 67 Engine Tower(mount) differences

67 frame is different up front. The upper frame rail is wider than that on 68-72 frames where the engine stands bolt. You'll have to trime the frame back approximately 1/4 inch or more to get any style 68-72 BB mounts to work.

Not a big deal but you need to be aware of this. Wish I had pics for you
