Speaking of powdercoating...

Well, we weren't but I'm going to. Has anyone in the NW had a frame done? I'm trying to find out how much it is and where I could get it done. I live about an hour(by ferry) from Seattle. Also, what needs to be done to the frame, hubs, axles before taking it to the place to get it done. Thanks, Jeff.

you need to take it all apart have it mildly sandblasted the shoot degreaser in between the crossmembers then before he powdercoats it as him to heat it up one to make sure there is no grease or oil on the frame ask also if his process needs any other steps like a prep base it will be a good job this way i did mine and did not get all the grease but the powdercoater does a lot of frames and caught what i mised and saved me a big headacke

You will want to take apart everything that you can. Pull the trans crossmember and the front suspension crossmembers. You will want to take them clean metal. I sandblasted my frame and all components. The crossmembers like to hide grease in them and it must be gone. A rule to remember is that anything with rubber seals cannot go. Tie rod ends can if all the rubber covers are removed first, but idler arms don't like it (I found out the hard way).

The last bit of advice I would give is to make sure you have your frame the way you want it. That is, if you think you will need to drill holes, remove brackets, add c-notches, trim the frame for headers, etc. you will want all of that done prior. You can't repair PC, it has to be blasted and redone.

It cost me around $650 to have all of these parts done. That is for two colors and I bought 50lbs of the red powder as it was something they did not stock. If you choose black it should be cheaper. Good luck and if you need anymore info on it let me know.

Geez, sorry one last point. Make sure all your pieces are in good shape. After I had mine done I went to reassemble and found that one of the A-arms was bent and had to be replaced! There is a $75 minimum on coating, so that cost me some extra. I assumed everything was straight since I took it off pretty easily. I ended up replacing a lower and upper control arm. I found the bottom one was bent and the threads for the bushing on the top one were bad.

That is great! I love the way that frame looks. Thats also the color I would like to do the frame in. Now I just need to find some where around here to do it. Did you sand blast it yourself, or have the same place do it?

These fellers are right. Take it apart, make all of your mods, then put it back together and be sure everything's right. As for blasting, it's a royal pain and hard work. I'm old enough that after blasting two wheels I'll hire my next job done.

I did the blasting myself. It took my 18 hours and 5 bags of silica. Lost Wages was kind enough to let me use his shop and blaster. It is a dirty nasty job, but saved my lots of dollars. Clean as much grease off the parts as possible before blasting.

As for the color I took my paint chip to the powder coaters and we went around and around trying to find a company that made a powder that matched the color I wanted. Of course, the one I found was very expensive. Red is high dollar in powder. My color is a Sherwin William Regal Red. This is the same as the Dodge Viper Red enamel.

You will be very happy with the results. I also had them put a clear powder of the red/grey. It makes it super shiney and that much more durable.

I used to use a place in puyallup area called Ken's powdercoating. Prices were GREAT. He did a sandrail frame for us, about 8yrs ago, for $100 that is blasted also. (was a steal)

I can get directions if you want. Not to far from Canyon Rd and 176th in Puyallup. Shop is next to his house.

email me ifyou want more info

Any info would be great. I also found a place up at Mukilteo that does it. Haven't heard back on my email yet, as to price. Ty are you very close to the Ken's place? Wondered if you could get a phone number for them and I'll call and get a price check. Thanks for all the help, Jeff.

I don't live in WA anymore (trying to get back), but I did get some #'s from my dad.

He mentioned Ken didn't have sandblaster big enough, and sends frame out to do, then brings back.

But ken will do it.

His # is..253-847-9431

Another # is Brothers powder coating in auburn 206 351-9210

Don't have name, but another place is located at 112th and Portland Ave. Just off 512. They can blast and coat.

If you need more info, let me know.

Thanks Jeff. I'll give those numbers a try and see if I can find a price I like. Good luck getting back. I'm trying to get away. Although I do love the source for great parts. Jeff.
