Dana 44 spindle interchange?
Getting new wheel bearings, etc... put into my '72 K20 and the spindles need replaced.... I can't find any 72 3/4T spindles. will the 73-76 3/4T spindles work? if so, what all has to change to use them, as they are different?
thanks, mick

Re: Dana 44 spindle interchange?
I don't have any details to share but I do know there are two types/sizes for spindles used on a D44. They are both swapable, you just need the matching WBearings with whatever spindle you end up with. Pre-72 is the smaller one if I remember correctly. Late model 72 and up is what your after..they have the 297 ujoint on the axels, instead of the smaller 260.
Hope this helps Burt

Re: Dana 44 spindle interchange?
Sounds like you need a donor D44 with the 297 shafts, then you can simply swap in the shafts and spindles on out..might be cheeper than buy new spindles? Getting away from thoes 260s is a good idea if you wheel moderate to hard trails.

Re: Dana 44 spindle interchange?
use the spindles, axle shafts and whichever hub assembly that matches the spindles. if the spindles are from a big hub 44, your 72 hubs will work. i swaped both my 72s over to 73-76 style for ease of parts availability and larger axle shafts & u-joints.

Re: Dana 44 spindle interchange?
thanks for all the info. was able to use a set of 73+ NOS spindles BlueJeep had on hand, and upgraded to the 73+ axle shafts and spicer U-joints.
it's back on the road!
