New limited slip differential and gears.

I went back home to Alabama over the weekend to visit the family. My mother-in-law needed help cleaning out her garage so my wonderful wife volunteered me to help. I was not real happy about it because I had plans to pull an old 350 out of an old dump truck so I could get it cleaned up. Somehow I ended up in the attic of her garage and I struck gold. I found a Auburn gear limited slip differential and a set of Richmond gears. I asked around the neighborhood and found out that the guy that used to live there built race cars. He passed away a few years ago so I called up some of his family and none of them wanted the parts so I got them as payment for helping clean out the garage. Now what I really want to know is if these parts will fit my truck. It says its for a GM 10 bolt.

oh yeah there was also a set of Yukon axles. I didnt get a chance to bring them back with me. I was told the last vehicle he built was a small block s10. I will get them the next time I go home so I can get some measurements off them.

Won't fit your truck. You have a 8.5" 10 bolt and those gears are for 7.5"/7.625" 10 bolts (later model fbody/s10). You could probably make a little cash selling them though.

I should have known it wouldn't fit. I looked at the axles and thought they looked a little short to be for a c10. Since his last vehicle was a s10 I figured the axles for a s10. I used the model numbers and looked them up to see what all they would fit. I guess this is the perfect excuse to buy the old buick regal my neighbor has sitting in his yard.....or the 3rd gen camaro/trans am I have always wanted.

Re: New limited slip differential and gears.

OK, I may be wrong here, but that doesn't look like a limited slip differential to me, is it possible that is the stock one that he took out and put back in the Auburn box? In such case, those are probably also the stock gears he took out also, that part number on the box is for 3:73 gears.

I guess its possible. I know nothing about rear end parts. I have never taken one apart or really had much to do with them. When I counted I got 41 teeth on the ring and 12 on the pinion, which is 3.42. When I looked up the part # it says 41 for the ring and 11 for the pinion, which is 3.73. So I guess I really have no idea what any of this is. If it is the stock differential is it even worth selling?

Re: New limited slip differential and gears.

if its just the stock stuff I would say you can still sell it, but, you arent going to get rich.

there are always people who are looking to re-gear their regal/monte carlo/cutlass that had 2.41 or 2.56 ratios and such from the factory who might be interested... Might only be $40 or $50 for it, but that does buy a couple cases of beer.....
