Questions about my 1979 2wd blazer.

I have a 1979 2wd k-5 blazer that i want to lower an make into a hot rod. I am wondering what company makes drop spindles and if i would need to get new shocks and if so what kind. I am planning on doing 4 inch lowering on the front and 2 on the back and putting 18-19" chrome wheels with low profile tires on them, would the 4 inch lowering be to much for them?.Also i was wondering if a door off of any full size 79 Chevy truck would fit on my blazer, thanks,John.

for the drop components summit racing has good prices for the front drop spindles and springs and the back drop shackles or you could remove the over load spring the 79 door will be a direct fit for the doors that fit 73-87 truck, 76-91 blazer, and 73-91, and crew cab, but to be a direct fit and correct I would use a 77-80 door, and for 73-76 door it's not made for power door locks or windows and has a smaller door panel and shaft for the window crank is shorter, and 81-87 door will work just the door handles and door panels are different

Welcome to the site, when you get time go over in the blazer side of the board and you will find a lot of info for your blazer. I ablazer has a 1" block under the springs so you can pull that out and then one one long leaf spring. YOu can also put 2" shackels on but it will rub your gas filler a little bit. The front if the easy one, what flamingbig10 said will work just fine and the same about the doors too.

today i bought new fenders,doors, and hood from certi fit so going to be putting those on. so far i have 3 inch lower springs on the front and havnt done anything to the back, this weekend im putting my 5 inch flip kit on and then ordering some 2-3 inch drop spindles for the front, then it should sit nice, do you think i will have to cut out the inner wheel well? and will there be an issue with the tire hitting the fender when turning?

i have a 6" drop on the front of my truck and i don't have any fender rubing only on bumps and dips and I'm running 215/70-15 with a 7" wheel and 4.25 bs

I run 245/60/15s with about 6" of drop up front. No rubbing other than in dips or bumps.

You will need new shorter shocks, or shock mount re-locaters.

Oh, and why the certi-fit parts? You should have been able to get some solid OE parts from trucks that were getting parted out for the same or less $. And then you have a quality part that will fit without much work. Certi-fit parts are often times a pain in the you know what. I have gotten them in and had to trim back 1/8-1/4", or add just as much, or re drill mount holes that were not even close. At least an OE part would line up for the most part. Sorry, not trying to burn you just curious.

so far got the fenders on and they went perfect, the doors will be hard im sure becuase i have to put the window and lock stuff together.

If it were me, I would test fit the doors first. If they look good , then take them off and install all the goodies while laying flat on saw horses.

Much easier to work on that way, but will require a friend to help install once done.

Just an fyi, you are probably going to get more drop than 5" from your flip kit, not sure why though. I had to get a 2" shackle to pick the rear up a little when I did mine, I think I ended up with ~8" drop from a 6" flip kit.

I've only had that problem with my blazer, never had that issue with a truck.
