Rear Disc Brake Install
Here are a couple of pics of my rear disc brake install from last weekend. I used Glocks rear Camaro brackets. They worked out very well. Nice looking parts and great instructions.
I didn't have to trim the inner ring on the rotors, they fit right on. The only hitch during the install was with the calipers. The part numbers that came with the instructions are correct but you have to be careful with RockAuto. The left and right calipers came from two different warehouses. Both were set up for e-brake install but one came with the cable bracket and one didn't. The one that has the bracket has a huge ridiculous looking rubber mounted weight hanging off of it, I assume for vibration damping. Additionally it looked like hell. It looks like they put new seals in it then just spray painted the whole thing dull silver. Really low rent. The other one (the one in the pics) looks a little more professionally done. Funny thing is the cores I picked up from the junkyard do not have e-brakes. I ended up just sending RockAuto back both of their calipers and bolting on the ones I got for cores. I'm going to try and sneak it past the safety inspection with no e-brake.

Re: Rear Disc Brake Install
Here are a couple more. The drums brakes (both sides) at the end are for sale over in the parts section. The shoes, adjusters and wheel cylinders are brand new and everything else is in great shape.

Re: Rear Disc Brake Install
Looks nice Jim. What is the width of the spacer between the two brackets?

Re: Rear Disc Brake Install
It's .25 Rob. I think I may have to add a thin washer between the caliper and the bracket to center it up on the rotor. Haven't tried it with pads yet. The spacer comes already welded on the bracket though so you do don't have to go searching.

Re: Rear Disc Brake Install
I bought the brackets here on the board, check this link
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=340444 Everything else I got from RockAuto using the part numbers that came in the instructions for the brackets.

Re: Rear Disc Brake Install
Hey Jim,
I bought the same brackets from glock. I was just curious, If you dont mind me askin. How were all the other parts to finish the job. I will be sending my brackets to txfirefighter for powder coating, as soon as I check the center clearance. Dont want to have to do any machining after p.c.'ing. Thanks buddy. Later, Rich |

Re: Rear Disc Brake Install
Everything fits pretty tight with no powdercoating. I think you may end up with a clearance issue with the caliper bracket to the rotor if you coat the spacer and where it seats against the outer bracket.
The second pic isn't close enough but it shows what I'm talking about. That bracket is fairly close to the rotor. I'm considering adding a washer between the caliper mount and the bracket to make a little more space there and center up the caliper on the rotor. To make a short story long, I think powdercoating the brackets may be an issue.

Its amazing how much one 4 letter word can change a subject. I forgot to type the word "much" in the line that is supposed to say: "How much were all the other parts to finish the job?" Thanks for the heads up on the p.c.'ing. It looks like they will be getting a coat of rust encapsulator and rust oleum like everything else. |

Re: Rear Disc Brake Install
Oh, Sorry
Here is a parts list from another post. The prices are accurate. If you have a set of calipers already, with the mounting brackets, you can save some money and get a set of rebuilt calipers locally for around $30-40 each. You will just have to swap the brackets over. I didn't check on the prices of the rotors local but I'm guessing you could get them pretty cheap too. I found a set of calipers in the junkyard for $13 each which saved me a little dough. If you don't run hard lines to the calipers you will need to get the Banjo bolt to attach the rubber lines. Another benefit of the junkyard. I picked up all the hardware at Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware has it too but they are more expensive. 1. Glock’s Camaro Brake Brackets - $95 2. 93-97 Rear Loaded Calipers – www.RockAuto.com a. Right A-1 CARDONE Part # 18B4540 (with mounting bracket) - $118.89 ($45 core) b. Left A-1 CARDONE Part # 18B4541 (with mounting bracket) - $135.79 ($45 core) 3. Rear Rotors (94-96 Impala SS) – www.RockAuto.com a. RAYBESTOS Part # 56450R {Professional Grade} - $27.79 each - $55.58 4. 93-97 Camaro Rear Brake Lines – www.RockAuto.com a. (2) RAYBESTOS Part # BH380483 {Professional Grade} – (10.99 each) - $21.98 5. 93-97 Camaro Parking Brake Cable – www.RockAuto.com a. WAGNER Part # BC133076 - $21.89 6. Metric Brake Line Adapters – www.gatewayfasteners.com – Part #1442 - $.99 each – $1.98 7. Disc/Disc Proportioning Valve - PVKS4 - www.classicperform.com - more specifically - http://www.classicperform.com/Store/...ruck/PVKS2.htm - $75 8. Hardware Needed: a. (14) 3/8”-24x1-1/4” Grade 8 bolts – Tractor Supply Company – Bulk Bolts b. (14) 3/8”-24 Grade C nuts – Tractor Supply Company – Bulk Bolts c. (14) 3/8” hardened flat washers – Tractor Supply Company – Bulk Bolts d. (4) M12-1.75x25mm Grade 10.9 Bolts e. (8) M12 flat washers
