292 mounting HELP!!!!

ok Stupid request.. could you get me some pictures of the engine mounts specifically how they are attached to themotor thru the cross memeber and to the block mount? the PO had taken the motor out and the one I got was already out of the truck with the c shaped rubber mount and the small square rubber and bolts already set aside.. I may be missing something or just having a brain fart but i want to get the motor in my truck with all the mounts properly installed
here is what I have i tried installing like in the last pic.. something doesnt seem right!

Re: 292 mounting HELP!!!!

The pieces you have laying on the board are for the rear crossmember.The "C" shaped one goes on top of the crossmember and the little square one goes inside the bottom of the crossmember.The long bolt goes thru it all.
Your front side mounts aren't all there,or I don't see all of it.

Re: 292 mounting HELP!!!!

Those mounts pictured are for the bell housing to cross member on manual transmission trucks. They are not motor mounts

Re: 292 mounting HELP!!!!

Four wheel drive trucks require a special 292-only motor mount crossmember. It's diagonal to match the 292's more-forward passenger side motor mount.
Looks like you have one.
You might need to move it to the forward holes, not the SBC mounts.

Re: 292 mounting HELP!!!!

Inline 6 engines don't use a timing chain. They use a cam gear that meshes directly with the crank gear. They don't wear much, so don't worry about it.

You want the metal timing gears. Somebody sells plastic, nylon or fibreglas gearsets -- skip that. I got 25 years and 250,000 miles out of my last 292 that I built in 1977. These things last.
As I said in the email F0817XAE means:
F= Built at Flint Mich.
08 = On August,
17=the 17th,
XAE= '68 292 Manual transmission

The mounts you show in the pic are a mismatch.
There's an old style, and a new "safety" style. Looks like you have one of each. You got the leavings from somebody else's engine swap. Just get 2 new mounts. Looks like the SBC and the L6s share the same type. You want fresh rubber anyway. So what if they're made in Thailand or India -- that's where the rubber is. About $15 each at the major vendors.

Re: 292 mounting HELP!!!!

Also "12.6.84" is most likely the rebuilders' date stamp.
