Getting closer on my 67 stepside
My truck finally has a heart. I put the engine in yesterday. It seems like a big step in getting it on the road. I still have quite a bit to do. I have a suburban tank for under the bed, but the filler tube comes up right where the cross member is, so I'm not sure how to fix that. I pretty much have the interior done other than some amp wiring and speakers for behind the seat. I need to do all of the engine and outside wiring. I need to put all the accessories on the engine and am waiting for my tires and wheels to come in...that seems like it is taking forever! I custom ordered some Torq Thrusts (18's in front and 20's in the rear) and I need to change my rear axles and front rotors to put them on. Those pieces are anxiously waiting in my garage. I haven't written much here, but was excited about the engine.

Re: Getting closer on my 67 stepside
It's been a while. The truck is almost done. Just got the exhaust in. I still need to add a roll pan to hide the gas tank better and it should slide right in above the exhaust pipes.
The axles and rotors are swapped and ready for my wheels and tires, which I had waited for almost 5 months for Torq Thrust II's. I finally gave up and ordered C5 Coys, which are supposed to be in any day now. Right now the truck is riding on some sporty whitewalls from a '58 Edsel (the only thing the guys could find in their shop that fit). They have done a lot of things that I wasn't up to doing. The engine is pretty much ready to fire except for plug wires Bed kit, a few nuts and bolts here and there and it is ready to go. Hopefully I will have some finished pictures in a few weeks!

Re: Getting closer on my 67 stepside
Got my wheel and tires. I'm pretty happy with the ride height. It will go down a little more when the bed wood is in. There won't be an option to lower it since the tire would probably hit the fender. What are your opinions of how it sits?

Very nice. Did you get new bedsides or clean up some old ones? Those are perfect.

Re: Getting closer on my 67 stepside
Thanks for the compliments. The guy I bought the truck from had pieced together parts. I'm not sure how many trucks this is, but there was no rust anywhere and very minimal body work needed.

Re: Getting closer on my 67 stepside
This is a Sweet ride! I had a black one just like it back about 8 years ago. No where near as nice as yours though. The one thing I never liked about mine was how it looked like it was 4x4 because of the height. Yours is perfect! keep the pics coming!

Re: Getting closer on my 67 stepside
Very nice!......I love clean and simple and your truck is that!
I can relate to the TT II's.......I was well into the 4 month of waiting and the company I bought them from sold me the Vintecs for the same price. All the fricken centers of those wheels (American) are now cast in China, then they ship em here and put them in rims.......go figure!

Re: Getting closer on my 67 stepside
That was what the hold up was with the wheels. They said they were waiting for the centers for the 20's. They told the dealer that they were about a week off almost every week they got an update. I had ordered them in early May. The truck was only half way done and I figured I was way ahead of the curve. I finally found a direct line to American Racing and spoke to their operations manager. He ended up telling me it was going to be another 4-6 weeks (which is what I heard when I ordered them originally). At that point, I was done with them. I ordered the Coys and had them the next week! To top it off, I like the Coy's better because of the smooth dish AND I saved $1100!!

Re: Getting closer on my 67 stepside
The engine went through the break-in last night. Had to set up fans on the headers since I don't have any cheapies and the headers are ceramic coated. Looks like they didn't get damaged. Could be driving this thing in the next day or so. I feel like a kid at xmas waiting to unwrap presents!
