Finally making some progress again, got the back tires on it now, Put a 29x18.5 Mickey Thompson sportsman tire on. Working on installing the roll cage, ordered the main hoop from SW Race cars, the hope fits awesome in the cab, the rest of the cage we are cutting and notching all the tubing, and it is coming out really well, I have been taking my time doing all the notches and welding everything up. All I have left to do to finish the cage is install the Xbar in between the two back bars, and do the door bars. I have lexan to go in for the new back window and I am thinking I might do the side windows too. As soon as I finish welding everything up I have a buddy that's going to paint the cage a candy apple red, and he is going to paint the back part of the frame.

my junior year in high school my ag teacher said for a project he would let me put a cage in my truck if i brought the materials

Wow, lots of nice work going on there. It only comes out 'perfect' like that when you take your time,,, looks like your doing things the right way!

Thanks guys, I put the X bar in today, no joke it must have taken 6 hours to make all the cuts and notches it looks sick though, I will post a pic tomorrow. So far the whole cage is pretty much tack welded together I am going to clean everything tomorrow and finish weld it.

I go to school for welding and I can mig, tig, or weld stick, but I ended up just mig welding it, I am on a tight deadline to get the cage and stuff done, and tig welding it takes forever its a slow precise process.

Sure, I tried to take a picture of the welds but you couldn't really see them, I am extremly happy with the way the welding and notching has been going.

How have you been notching your tubes?

I have been cutting the angle on a nice Milwaukee cut off saw, then I have been using a grinder with these really good 36 gritt flap wheels to notch the tubing. I take my time and mark were it needs to be ground down and take a little off at a time so that the notches are tight. Most of these angles a tubing notcher willn't work.

Its only an 8pt cage I didn't want to go crazy with it the truck isn't that fast yet.

When I re sized the picture the x bar got messed up, i have not clue why. But the truck is getting there going to put the lexan in it this weekend drove it Sunday for the first time since I have owned it.

Its no 700hp its just a crate 350 not pushing alot of hp right now, but as soon as economy gets better that truck is getting a worked big block, and hopefully a trans brake.

Congrats was it like driving a new vehicle???? I havent drove mine in a year and a half so Icant imagine what it felt like.

I am going to lower it a little more in the front this weekend or next all depends on my work schedule, All I really have to do to start driving it is, replace the ball joints and I want to change all my tie rods, and just button up some wiring bolt the bumpers back on and put the new back window in. And just give it a good tune for the street.

It was pretty cool to drive it, I was nervous but excited at the same time. But the brakes were all tight and everthing was good had a small trans leak but got that taken care of. The brakes were a little bit of a pain to bleed the truck has 10 bleeders 8 in the rear and 2 in the front, I have wilwood disk brakes on the rear, with 4 piston calipers.
