Help! truck RPM wont go past 2500 rpm - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Kinda Off topic but I am furious! I was driving my Ford home (1981 f150 6 cyl) in the worst snow storm imaginable, I couldnt see three feet in front of me. Going about 70 km/h when suddenly the truck starts to misfire really badly, I mean you step on the gas all the way and all it does is spudder and the rpm would not go above 2800 rpm. Could I be getting air in the fuel, is my coil bad is that stupid little gay ignition box messing me around? Btw I almost died because I had no power brakes or power steering, There is a god because I prayed to him to get me home safely

If the temperature was near freezing, your carburator was probably icing up. Does your truck run better now? Check carb for icing. My friends FORD did the same thing. Runs real bad when iced up. He would shut truck off for 5-10 minutes and the latent heat from the motor would melt the ice. Then he'd start it up and drive for a while longer. This is one reason fuel injection rules!

Hmm, I got carb ice once while flying my Cessna 172 back from NC, just pulled the carb heat knob. Maybe Ford should install carb heat on their trucks. Just a thought.

Yup my carb froze up on me last night! Looks like Im gonna have to put insulation on the grille. I did notice the venturies looked like they were covered in frost.

Don't take it that I like F@rds, but the key word is probably "cold". I don't know what the temp was in Vancouver, but I saw on the news that the temp in parts of Alaska was -38 F. Burrrr!!!!!!!!!

Yeesh. I drive the ford because it's good on gas and it's a 4x4. I don't like owning a Ford but, this is the first trouble I have had with it. I put the insulator on the grille and already noticed a big difference
