Oil Bath Air Cleaners
How rare of an option is an oil bath air cleaner on a '69 GMC? I tossed mine out a while back because it was so dang big, I thought it would break off the carb studs! j/k Did I throw away my winning Lotto ticket?

Re: Oil Bath Air Cleaners
was common back in the day, but not many left around now.
I guess it wasn't rare, but it is now? |

Re: Oil Bath Air Cleaners
^^ yep what lhm said. most owners ditched them for simple paper element cleaners. much cleaner and user friendly!

Re: Oil Bath Air Cleaners
Dang,I've been looking for one of those for my '69. Had one once and I just like the principle;good filtration that never restricts flow (much),and no paper elements to purchase. I drive lots of fire roads (dirt) and have to change AF often.
But now, with a quart of oil costing nearly as much as a paper filter,I don't know.

Not yet but maybe some day. For the Resto guys the ones on Chevy cars went through the roof. I'm not into 100% correct restorations and would rather have a paper element then those things. A damn oil filled sock sucks

Re: Oil Bath Air Cleaners
Had one on my 68 GMC six cylinder and got rid of it. I never did care for the oil air filters.

Re: Oil Bath Air Cleaners
they work great, but are messy, a total PITA, and if it matters to you, not very environmentally responsible.

Re: Oil Bath Air Cleaners
Well, I read an article about a year ago that suggested that these filters are not very good compared to a pleated paper filter.
The reasoning was that hoping the little rocks would bump into an oil soaked bit of horse hair or whatever it is, isn't very reliable compared to the rocks having to get caught by the paper... Regardless, if you tossed it, its gone. |
