Dash and rack in Jimmy

We got ourselves a new digital camera for Xmas, so I thought I'd post some pics of my work. The dash I did in '89 with a Sun Super Tach I and some Autometer 2 1/16. I sanded the chrome off of a factory cluster and painted semi-gloss, using the instrument chrome for detail. Made the rack last summer to keep control of all my tools. I have jumper cables and a 30 ft strap in the canvas bags. (1 is behind sub) I installed the tool box today, got it scratch and dent for $50 and have been collecting tools for it for about a year now. What'd'ya think?

I really like how you stored all of those tools behind the seat. That is pretty slick.

Thanks. It's really nice to have everything where you can get to it, but it is difficult to steal. I have been looking forward to the locking box so I can really plan for a softtop. I have 'em all in the shop now so weather and thieves are less of an issue... but obviously never completely out of the picture. Years ago I had a HUGE box conformed to the back of the seat with a pair of 12's. Subsequently replaced with a Kicker VR12 in a 1 cuft box. I REALLY like the extra room!

how does she sound? I've been waiting to put a sub in my truck until a get a swing away spare tire rack. does the top rattle? or since it's fiberglass it probably sounds pretty good. do you have any close ups of the mounting for your tools behind the seat? If I was gonna have all those I would mount them behind the seat too. i was thinking of mounting a ammo box under the hood for all of my small tools.

btw you live in texas, get a soft top, I woudn't worry much about rain. I live in seattle and people always wonder why it's so green here

The stereo sounds excellent. This is the third time I have redone it. I have an Alpine 7903 CD player, Kicker 4's in the doors, 6 1/2's in the kick panel and the 12 all powered by a Kicker 605D (40x4, 120x1) I do not have a closeup of the tool rack but will take one tomorrow. The sun was at the wrong angle this afternoon. Now that the truck is indoors fulltime I will eventually get a soft top. I would have done it already, but got no job...

Here are some more pics of the rack. I used bolts with smooth shanks and the heads cut off for the pins and the "flaps" are gate hinges I bent with the torch to conform to the tool. These pics are a little bigger for detail. Sorry to you dial-up guys...
