how to id heads

I know it's a stupid question, but where do I find the casting numbers? what are good castings?

the casting numbers should be near where the rocker arm studs are under the valve cover

Here is what mortec's website says:

462624.....75-86...350/400......76cc chamber, 1.72/1.5, 1.94/1.5 or 2.02/1.6 valves

I am not sure how to rank these, there are quite a few head experts on the board. I am sure they can let you know the value.

I would pass unless they are really cheap. They are light castings and tend to crack. See my other reply.
