Interesting Ebay SWB 402

Item number 160338251571
is a black SWB (CE10734 model) with a 402. A few things bother me but the buy it now price is less than 15k.

The alternator bracket does not look like a 72 (I have the owner checking the engine code). The poorly placed SUPER emblems, cloth seat, steering wheel, ugly wheels, speakers in doors, padded door panels, aftermarket stereo, air-cleaner etc. are also not correct. The brake booster looks wrong. A woodgrain moulding is missing from the passenger side front fender.

Even considering those things this may be a good buy if all of the major parts are original and in good repair. Some parts, a long weekend and a trip to the paint shop and I could get it pretty close.

Does anyone in the Dallas area know anything about this truck?

Re: Interesting Ebay SWB 402

Looks decent enough and I love the steelies with the low pro "cop" caps!! The seat could be OE material, looks like houndstooth?? I'd say if it is a legit BBC truck then yeah may be worth the BIN price?? I'd try to get it lower if possible. A little love and it could be a super sweet rig?!

Re: Interesting Ebay SWB 402

When I see Cheyanne Super projects with asking prices close to that the price sounds pretty friendly.

You can't really count wheels and tires unless they are jacking up the price for them and this doesn't look to be the case. They are just what happened to be on the truck.

Emblems, someone who was putting the truck back together after it was painted didn't know exactly where they should go and didn't take the time to find out.

Seat cover, not right but probably really comfy in the Texas heat and you don't have to pack a towel for your lady to sit on.

And it does say make offer.

should the spid read "super" it just says cheyene also didn't all supers come with the woodgrain on the instrument cluster and glove box, the only reason i am belittleing it is because they are calling it a factory super I think its a clone

Re: Interesting Ebay SWB 402

Dan, I believe that is a 71 and older alt bracket. The "correct" 72 type was a one year only bracket.

Re: Interesting Ebay SWB 402

Judging from the lack of woodgrain on dash, ash tray and glove box and door panels, as well as lack of stainless trim on tailgate handle and it's not a SUPER. The dead give away is the fact that the SPID reads Cheyenne, not Cheyenne Super. I parted out a Super a while back that was rusted beyond saving. The tailgate trim and glovebox were the only Super specific parts that were salvageable. THe EBAY truck is still a nice truck, but $15k with the way the economy is...???

Re: Interesting Ebay SWB 402

The big block trucks i have seen do not have an alternator bracket like that. My brother has a 72 Cheyenne that my uncle bought new. It has never had the engine out. It has an alernator bracket that is flat on top. I had a 72 Custom that had a BB 400. It also had an alt bracket that was flat on top. It looks more like the brackets I have seen on BB cars. It might be correct still, though. There is a pic below from another thread of an engine that has the bracket that I am accustomed to seeing on 72 BB trucks.

Like Joe said the 71 and 72 are completely different. 72 was1 year only? I think?

wideside has the correct bracket for a 72 BB truck, they only used that bracket one year and on one engine (72 Big Block chevy truck,) and is very valuable.......

Re: Interesting Ebay SWB 402

That alt bracket looks right to me... the RED paint on the engine isn't right though

Being that the SPID looks real, and it doesn't say super... I don't see any question about it.... it's not a super.
There was a comment above about woodgrain inside the cab... they NEVER had woodgrain on the ashtray... that's a inacurate restoration piece.
I like the seller's disclaimer;
Quote:
The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein

It still looks like a sweet black big block SWB truck, even if they did put that spray in crap in the bed.
Since it was never claimed to be a 100% acurate resto, the little things shouldn't matter... although, no one mentioned it was missing the rubber piece on the steering column under the inst panel... or the fact that it has the wrong style battery.

None of the 72 big block trucks I have had experience with had a bracket like the one on the truck for sale on EBAY. That's not to say that it isn't "right". The red paint isn't right either, but I think we were trying to determine if the engine was swapped in (?) I don't think we we trying to pick the truck apart. The original thread was questioning whether or not it was a Super...
Obviously the chrome valve covers and air cleaner are not right. I don't think anyone thinks the truck is a concours restoration.

I never realized it, but I think it is a one year only bracket. My brother recently bought and resold a 71 BB Cheyenne Super. I need to ask him what the bracket looked like, or if he has a picture of it. I can't remember off hand.

I agree.I never did see what the truck looked like. The link never worked for me,either.
I`d say it`s a great deal if it`s anything like what I have pictured in my mind.

It looks like a nice truck - IDK what the original description said, but it's way off original. Still, looks like a nice ride for somebody, though 10 grand might be a little high for the current economy.

I like it, it's not worth 14K+, but 10K is about the going price.

Definitley misrepresented. Typical ebay dealer practice.

Re: Interesting Ebay SWB 402

Super emblems are def. wrong looks like they used 69-70 model fenders that were drilled for engine designation. If claiming 72 then the truck should have the one year only bracket with flat top, the 70-71 bracket is like 68-69 and all cars with the exception of the tab welded to the bracket to mount to the intake. Looks to be put together but not bad looking truck.

No one even "hawked" on the incorrect steering wheel! HAHA Too much $ for a truck that is not quite right. BTW, one of these trucks w/ a big block will get you in debt (gas) as a "driver", IMO.

That's all i own... it ain't bad if you live close to work.

As far as the truck, I had personally thought it was a 71.... I didn't look at the listing title in all honesty... I saw it had the 71 rear view mirror, and connected the two dots... the second one being the 68 - 71 alt bracket, and came to that conclusion.
I guess there's a few questions needing answered now.

Thanks, buddy! I know I could have gone to Ebay and typed in the item number as each other person could, too.I guess the point is why wouldn`t the o.p. just post pictures if they want interest in their topic. It`s pretty worthless if you don`t have the info or even see the truck.
