Curb weight?
Anybody know the curb weight of a 66 short step? I'm being moved to Alaska, and I'm taking my 66 step side with me. Just wandering how much of a load my Ford(yea I said it) will have to endure.

I think the little metal plate in my '64 Long Fleet said 4000 or 4500 lbs its covered now so I cant see for sure... and I think that was gross vehicle weight

No one seems to know so here's my best researched guess
4500lbs GVWR -1000lbs bed can hold -100lbs for 16 gallons of gas -500lbs for max weight of 2 occupants = 2900lbs curb weight 4000lbs GVWR -1000lbs bed can hold -100lbs for 16 gallons of gas -500lbs for max weight of 2 occupants = 2400lbs curb weight So looks between 2400 and 2900 lbs Gives you 360-435lbs tongue weight I believe Hope this helps

Going out, empty bed and just me, the weight was very consistent at 3900 lbs. Take my 200-250 lbs out and ya get 3600-3700 lbs. I'm not sure, but I would think separating the passengers from the bed payload in that calc is incorrect. The "half ton" capacity is what ever goes in the truck that is not the truck itself, so passengers and payload together are your half ton. |

Alright just took my kick panel off and looked; GVWR 5000
5000lbs GVWR -1000lbs bed load -100lbs for 16 gallons of gas -500lbs 2 persons = 3400lbs curb weight or 3900lbs if you don't separate cab weight from bed weight hahaha, Probably shoulda looked yesterday....

Texas should have a livestock feedlot or dairy with a scale somewhere . Find a weigh station with a scale. Just pull it on and weigh it so you don't overload the Ford or your trailer.It is good to know how much you are pulling. It is a long way from Texas to Alaska. Good luck
