how do you replace door pins?
I need to replace the door pin on the drivers side of my truick. I know someone has done this and knows the best and easy way to get it done. Do I have to take the door off or the fender? is there a way to push the pin out just with the door open? thanks

Re: how do you replace door pins?
You are far better of to just remove the door than to try to fight it. The one with the "check" (spring loaded mechanism) will absolutely have to come off of the truck to get the pin out. In most of the older vehicles the pin will not physically come out of the upper hinge while mounted because it would hit something...fender, door, etc.
Be aware that you will have to replace the bushings too. They are soft (bronze) so they wear-out before the pins start to wear.

Re: how do you replace door pins?
Once removed, you might be able to hammer the old ones out, but you really should put some heat into it with a torch. Once you do that, the pins will release much easier and you won't have to get medieval on them with the hammer.
The pins and bushings will run you 10 bucks per side.

Re: how do you replace door pins?
Remove hinges from the truck.
Soak with PB blaster. Hit them with a torch after they have soaked for a day. Soak with PB again for a day. Put the hinge in a vice, hit it with torch, and then hit it ONCE with a 5lb sledgehammer as hard as you can to drive the pin out. If you hit it too many times, it will mushroom and you will never get it out, short of cutting it with a dremel tool....which takes forever.

Re: how do you replace door pins?
I can do a full rebuild and powdercoat job on a set in about 3 hours. That includes cooking time for the powdercoat. It's not that big of a job.

Kevin beat me to it.
I was going to suggest just swapping out your old hinges with rebuilts. If you want to add powdercoating; he's your "go to" guy. He did some stuff for me & I couldn't be happier.
