small back window?

On some of the larger 73-87 dumptrucks, and other larger tonnages I have seen a small back window cab.
Has anyone seen one of these sbw cabs used on a c/10?
pictures?

Re: small back window?

the cab floors are different without the hump needed to clear the fuel tanks making the larger cabs sunable to be used ( unless you want to change out the floor backs) on our genre vehicle

Re: small back window?

I have never seen one. I guess if you just wanted to be different, it would be something to do. Personally I don't like the looks of small window cabs regardless of the generation.

Re: small back window?

I didn't know about the floor thing, about the only good argument I have ever hreard for a sbw cab is that they are cooler-not as much sun-
I mainly thought it would be different, once the 67 body style came around the sbw was all but gone.

Re: small back window?

Yeah, the 73-87 have the infamous saddle tanks. They extend under the cab so the area under the seat is raised to accomodate.

You are correct that 67 was the last year that a small window cab was available on a light duty pick up.

Re: small back window?

Yeah but if you wanted to run your back brackes of your roll cage out thru the metal you wouldn't have to cut the glass...

Re: small back window?

I think it might look a little better in real life...
that drawing looks like a 75+ blazer roof section, with the way it is squared off...
the real sbw on the big trucks is kind of like a 60-66 from the back, you can see the outline where the big glass would go, but its filled in with sheetmetal.

Re: small back window?

brad2? I once knew a guy that went by brad2. I thought he was lost in the desert of Oklahoma.

I remember that rendering by Steve Stanford very well. When jonzcustomshop asked about the SBW that pic came to mind. I believe it also says the rear bumper is from a van of that era and has no license pocket. Apparently they didn't do their research very well because the van bumpers have license plate cutouts.

Re: small back window?

It may be easier to go beyone the stock window opening and cut/replace with the sbw then to cut and re-fit floors. As Ken stated, it will be "raised" where the large bw cabs are cut for the window. It would be a lot less bracing, etc for the cut/weld process.

I personally would like to see it done. If it sucks, then we know...but what if it actually looks neat...

Re: small back window?

I've seen them in the HD trucks, They do not look cool. It looks like someone forgot to cut the back window out. If someone were to do this I would suggest smoothing the area so the recess where the window should be doesn't show. Basically make it look like it was meant to be that way.

Re: small back window?

Looks easiest just to swap out the cab back.

I'll let you know what it looks like when I build my racer - say in about 15 years when the kids finish school LOL!
