Motor home tilt column?

I have a tilt column out of a motor home- looks to be 73- up by the steering wheel. I didn't get to see exactly what style of motor home it came out of, but I'm assuming it isn't out of a "van cutaway" because it doesn't have a neutral safety switch. It does have the place to put one with what looks like OE electrical tape wrapped over the opening. One thing that caught my eye- it has a "moon" style turn signal harness plug.

Is this thing identical to a van column? I don't want to lead someone to believe it is, if it isn't.

Re: Motor home tilt column?

Sometimes these came with the short shaft, just like a pickup did. In that case it's better then a van tilt. Otherwise I think it's just as good as a van tilt. I don't think the nuetral safety switch is a big deal, as it has to be moved anyway on the van tilt. If they are swapping out the column chances are they already have a neutral safety switch on the original column. I could be totally wrong on the ease of the neutral safety switch though, I am just guessing on that.
If you are selling it, and it has the long shaft, I would specify it came from a motor home, and ask the same price as people are getting for van tilts.

Re: Motor home tilt column?

I took one out of an early 80s motorhome and it was exactly the proper length. I did not need to shorten the intermediate shaft like you would on a van tilt. Even the wiring plugged straight in without the adapter.

Re: Motor home tilt column?

I'll get a pic of it tomorrow night. Come to think of it, I think I have another that supposedly did come out of a van. I'll get pics of both. I should have thought of this before I put a true truck tilt in my truck- would have been nice to get a shot of all 3 side by side.
