Welcome to the forum BLFJ. Before we offer advice, tell us what year truck your planning to buy?

The front suspension is the same for three generations of C-10's. The rear is where the difference is at.

Nathan Porterbuilt is your man on this one.

A C4 front Dropmember with coil overs, matched with a rear kit or some sort (I haven't researched the 67-72 rear suspension before) will probably be what you are looking for.

Re: Making my truck handle excellent....

You really need to do some serious frame strengthening, the frame on these truck have terrible torsional rigidity, need to box it and do some triangulation or at least some gusseting. Lowering coils, shocks and bars will certainly help alot but still wont put you in modern car territory.

Im not so sure the DM is the best way to go for handling though, I could be wrong but it seems like it puts the engine/trans kinda high in relation to the frame. The C4 one surely has alot less unsprung weight compared to the stock front suspension and would be great if you want to have a super low truck and be able to drive it daily but for handling theres probably better ways to go. Of course thats just my opinion so take it for whats its worth.

I think the first question should be:

How much money do you have?

Exactly what I was thinking. It will only handle as well as your budget can allow.

Actually, there are multiple advantages of running a C4 Dropmember... IF performance is what you have in mind, and IF it is within your budget... it's the best option out there (aside from a full custom chassis). The Dropmember C4's geometry is actually designed to give optimum performance on the C10 truck. The height of the drivetrain really has little impact (it's height difference is minimal) and when comparing center of gravitys and roll centers, it's miles beyond what can be achieved using any combination that keeps the factory crossmember.

And if you're still worried about engine placement, use a dry sump to get it lower and/or push it back into the cab. You won't need a radio or heater controls in the middle of the dash while you're going fast around corners... get the truck weight bias near the 50/50 ratio. Or how about dual engine AWD? Hmmm... sounds like something someone needs to build for Pike's Peak.
