Clutch or trans making this noise???

Ok heres my saga. The truck was making a bad noise from what I thought was the release bearing. Replaced it last friday. The bearing(release) fell apart when the trans was removed. I inspected the clutch as much as possible but was sure this was the issue at the time so we put the trans back in and tested. I adjusted the clutch and to my dismay its doing the same stinking noise. When the clutch peddle is in with the truck not moving no noise. When moving you get a sound kinda like a washing machine washing ( if youre washing rocks) and a clicking sound. And if you depress the clutch but down shift, the noise speeds up. I never let the clutch out just down shifting and coasting. Something in the trans (M-21) bearing or worse in there,? Clutch maybe.? Ideas,? suggestions. ?thanks, Mike

Did you replace the pilot bushing while you were in there? Is you linkage adjusted properly? Sounds like the clutch isnt all the way disengaged.

Re: Clutch or trans making this noise???

I would guess it is the tranny. My four speed took a dump on me in January, but starting in late December, it would make a kind of scratching, weird sounding noise in 2nd gear. I thought it was the clutch and I kept driving it, but it eventually got worse and the only gear it would make the noise in was 4th.

Re: Clutch or trans making this noise???

I am no mechanic, so if my guess is wrong, don't blame me.
