65 or 78...HELP!

Looking at a 65 short bed fleetside c10 project. Guy wants $1000 for it. It has a 283 in it and he said it hasnt run in 8 years. There is also a 78 c10 for sale for 1600, but it runs. It has a stepside bed though so Id buy a fleetside for it. What do you think is a better idea? I would eventually slam it and put a big motor in (hopefully air ride.) Thanks

That all depends on YOU. It would be YOUR truck afterall. The 65 may be a little harder to get parts for but they are out there. The 78 has alot of years that the parts will interchange.

Buy both and you won't be upset you didn't get the other...but the better half maybe upset you spent more than expected.

Re: 65 or 78...HELP!

If you were closer my buddy have a whole donor or starter truck for the 65. He just picked up a 65 & a 66 and is only going to build one, the other will be mostly whole and will be sold fairly soon.

Re: 65 or 78...HELP!

Ya, a nice starter project too. He bought the pair with titles from a guy here local and thought that one was complete and the other was just parts. That aint the case. You should be able to find stuff on craigslist or in junk yards to complete either truck. I know out there is probably harder to find a solid ol truck than it is here. But they are around. Good luck to you with the decision.
