Vent window rubber
Working on rebuilding a door . Replacing the rubber and weatherstripping on everything. Have been disassembling the vents in the process of cleaning everything up and putting new paint on everything. Any tricks on the vent window rubber? I also have the rivets and the rivet tool.....but have not been reading good reviews of the tool. Any experience is appreciated....Did a search and most of what came up was '67-'72 stuff. Doing this on a '63 GMC.

if you got the rubber from lmc its like mine and it wont shut right without a squegee to work it down in the rubber,

Would I be better off getting one of the rivet guns rather than mess with that cheapie punch looking tool?

I put a piece of round stock in my vise to back up the rivet when I used the rivet tool. It helped a little, but it's not a real fun job.

I ended up using the "tool " to start the rivet, Next I used a 5/8 center punch to flare it out, then a flat drift punch to flatten it out. A 5' vise with a 1/2 flat bar in the jaws was the "third set of hands" A 200 lb anvil was used when ever possible. I found lots of Dawn dish soap helped slide the rubber in to place. I am still not happy with the way the hinge pivot turned out. It works but looks tacky.Brothers Trucks furnished the kit. Good quality stuff.
