ARA Manufacturing Air Conditioner

I am trying to get my aftermarket a/c working again and wanted to see if anyone knows anything about these. I am guessing it was a dealer installed a/c unit in 72 but that is only a guess. What I am trying to determine is if it is worthwhile to get it going again and if it has enough capacity to cool the cab or if I should dump it and start over. It seems like a good unit and is in good shape. I will need to get all new hoses and one of my worries is that the connectors are clamps. Any ideas on this? I will also replace the dryer.

Any knowledge of this unit? Thanks.

BTW - This is a 72 SWB 4X4, manual trans.

Re: ARA Manufacturing Air Conditioner

ARA is one of several aftermarket manufacturers. Mark IV units are being manufactured by Vintage Air, or one of the other aftermarket companies. I don't know what issues you have but those units contained everything you needed inside the cab, with the condensor/compressor outside.

NAPA has hoses and fittings, as well as the clamps you need. They have driers, also. So, it shouldn't be a problem to bring it back to life....easier for you than for me with my factory A/C.

I have one it works great. To great it will get the cab way cold. That is in Az with no tinted windows. What you need to decide if if the cost or repair gets to close to the price of a new kit you might as well get a new one.

Hey, I run a school bus dealer parts dept. in Little Rock Arkansas and buy all my a/c parts and units from a company in Dallas Texas. The name is Omega Enviromental, and talk to a guy by the name of John Hardie. I have yet found anyone to beat his price nor quality. They are an oem supplier for Blue Bird bus and other companies , plus John will bust his butt to help. The have a massive interchange and John can figure out most anything by pics or verbal description. They also have a web site.

By the way John also has the front mount radiator fans at a heck of a deal. I purchased one for a 65 Comet and could have paid John much less than I paid Advance Auto Parts.
