Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

Hey Guys, I was looking at a dizzy I found to soon replace my troublesome one and I found an fairly nice one but I won't lie I don't think it will work. Its an HEI dizzy with a vacuum advance. Is there a way to cap off the vacuum adv. My ecm does the timing changes for me ....or is this something I can incorporate into my existing system?

I have a 88 4.3 TBI c1500

If this is a silly question I'm sorry but I figure the dumb one is the one not asked, thanks!

It's a good question. Hopefully, someone will answer it for you. I don't have a clue.

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

Hmmm, thanks for telling me something. Haha. I ask questions and when I get nothing back, I think its something everyone is saying, "He doesn't know THAT?"

I'm going to look into it. Thanks

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

I don't think it will work as the modules would be different. When you say HEI w/ vac adv, I assume you mean the previous style found in pre 87 truck with the coil in the cap. You can get a reman dist from the parts stores for $100-$150 with LT Warr.

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

Yeah, I was thinking about those. (The coil on top ones)

It was my understanding they create a stronger spark than stock.

Anyone put those on their 88-96? Thanks

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

You can get an aftermarket coil if you want more spark.

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

If I upgrade the coil, will I need to do anything to the dizzy?

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

I would hope that your distributor cap and the rotor are in good condition. If they aren't, I'd be replacing them when I installed the new coil.

You don't want all that additional voltage tracking across a pre-existing carbon track and nullifying your effort and expense.

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

No, just install a quality cap, rotor, wires and plugs to take full advantage of the coil. Check out this stuff from Accel.

Accel Dist.

Accel Coil

Or stick with the stock dist and get the Accel Tune Up kit

You can ge this stuff from Oreilly Auto, Summit Racing, Jegs

Re: Vacuum Adv. Dizzy question

Or MSD

Dist
http://www.msdignition.com/product.aspx?id=5367

Coil
http://www.msdignition.com/product.aspx?id=5063

Wires
http://www.msdignition.com/product.aspx?id=6041
It says 92-97 but I searched your engine and this is what came up.

As far as plugs go, I have always like the AC Delco Rapidfire Plugs on the TBI engines. I found Autozone to actually be cheaper on the MSD stuff and they keep the coil and wires in stock at my local store.
