Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

Had a new windshield and gasket installed today. The only problem is the gasket at the top corners on the inside is wrinkled on both sides. The glass man said that is how it turns out on all 67-72's. He didn't know why or how to fix it in his 15 yrs. experience. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. ED67C20

Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

It should not be wrinkled. He does not know how to do it correctly, or the gasket may be of poor quality. Do you know the brand? I have heard Precision is the best aftermarket windshield seal.

Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

Most likely it is the seal. Like leddzepp stated Precision are the best. However it could be the glass also. Anything other than "PPG" and "LOF" will cause problems also. I have found other brands to be bad fit and bubbled to the point that your windshield wipers do not touch the entire window. WES

I have installed 6 windshields in 67-72 Chevy trucks, some old glass, some new Chinese made glass, some old gaskets, some new gaskets and none of them have wrinkles in the top corners. I'm not saying that the gasket might not be screwed up but I would take it back and tell him to make it right.

Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

I had a company come to my house and install mine and it wrinkled in the corners. I took it back and they said it was my gasket( bought from LMC) they reinstalled using their gasket and it wrinkled again. They next blamed it on me saying I modified the truck when I did rust repair(the only rust repair I did was in the rockers. I gave up and its been like that for over a year now.

Have you used the windshield wipers yet? I found safelite glass to be the worst of the bunch. WES

Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

I used a precision gasket supplied by the installer, and he used LOF glass and it wrinkled on both sides on the top corners inside. He has done these for 30+ years and he worked at it & worked at it. He didn't have a solution for me.

Thumbs up Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

Had Safelite try 3 times to install mine. First time was glass too big. Secondtime, couldn't get it to fit by himself, said I had incorrect gasket. And third time, gasket was wrinkled like you said. Never once did I see them use any lube to install. Finally told them to take it out, and give me my money back. Called local guy, and within 2-3 hrs. had windshield in and looked like original.

Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

I have had a few wrinkle also.....I have also had problems with rear widow gaskets. The last one from LMC (made in China) was way too big.

Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

I have had 2 Pilkington windshields with Presicion Gaskets, I was taught to use dish soap for lube and they both turned out good, I helped a a guy put one in a truck with a chopped top once, now that was a PAIN!

Re: Windshield Gasket Wrinkled?

I have safelite glass with a LMC seal. Everything looks fine and it doesnt leak so i must have just gotten lucky. Plus the guy installed it himself in about 30 minutes.
