I'm rebuilding that Rochester 2G carb out at my dad's place. I'm having a hell of a time getting the carb off the intake. What I have is two bolts in back that run through the spacer between the carb and the intake, but in the front I just have nuts that thread onto studs! Is this right? Both bolts and nuts are removed, but the carb won't budge. Do the idle needles have to come out first? I can't separate the carb from the spacer until it's off the intake...

Sounds like your off to a bad start! I've seen that situation where the two studs in front are frozen into the base of the carb with rust and or carbon. It's going to take some patients,,try soaking the area with a good penetrating oil (overnight wouldn't hurt) and tapping the base gently from side to side with a hammer and flat punch, hopefully it starts to move then keep working on it with the oil and tapping until its freed up. Be careful not to damage the carb with hard blows. I hope the rest of the job goes better for you.

Well, I managed to get it loose. Turns out there's a lot of carbon build-up around the front base of the spacer. The studs have a lot of filth on them. After worrying about it, I got out the smaller hammer and just started tapping it...it came loose.
Got the carb apart and am soaking the big housing + base and all the really filthy parts now in a bin of cleaner. All the not-so-dirty stuff will get soaked tomorrow. OH BTW: Turns out the float was leaking (results in rich mixture and mis-out when the truck hits bumps or on an incline), and the accelerator pump assembly was busted around the rubber seal at the bottom!
