New to trucks and new to this site from Portland, Orygun

Hey guys, I have been reading on this site since before I purchase my "new" truck. I have to say that you guys know what you are doing and I am glad to have such a wealth of information available to me, I have even seen a few active members from my area (nice to know).

Anyways lets get to the point. I am a new and VERY proud owner of a 1965 GMC Shortbed Stepside. Its currently painted "Farmer John Green" and even has the white wheels to match haha. I found it on Craigslist for $800 and well it ran so I bought it .

It has a 230ci inline 6 (I haven't checked to see if it is original or not), the only mods are Chevy Hubcaps (soon to go away), a very old cassette deck (already removed), and a Hurst Floor Shifter.

I did a little tune-up on it the day I bought it (June 3rd) to include: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, condenser, points, 4 gallons of 92 octane gas, 1/2 a can of SeaFoam in the gas, 1/2 a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase, PCV Valve, Fuel Filter, and Air Filter. I drove it home (if you know the area) from Foster and 99th to my place off of 212 in Clackamas.

Immediately I need to change the oil, adjust the shift linkage, and wire up the brake lights and signals (they are wired but not getting power to the white wire off the brake switch or anything to the rear signals.)

Let me know what you guys think.

Hi, and welcome from Indiana. Looks like you have a nice platform to work with for resto, or rod, depending on which one you choose.

Re: New to trucks and new to this site from Portland, Orygun

Lots of plans... First of all make it a reliable daily driver. The transmission went out in my 2001 Yukon so this is the replacement. I am going to be wiring up a temporary fix for the signals and tail lights this week. Then a 3/4 drop using springs in the front and shackles/blocks in the rear. Get rid of that rear bumper and probably throw a roll pan on. New diamond plate bed floor. Fill all holes and fix all rust, re-paint in a matte black with some red accenting (rat look). I want to throw on a set of the top-of-the-door mount mirrors. Replace all wiring and lighting. New wide white wall tires with red rims and full moons. Wire up my stereo system including a sub under the front passenger-side of the seat. Re-do the interior all black and red with chrome knobs. New gauges. Eventually a big block and turbo 400!!

You have confirmed with your son that this is what he wants it to be like someday?

As you can see he likes it in stock form, so anything is an improvement! We can paint it any color he wants when he is about 15.
