Project KRZY

So I haven't really posted much but this is my attempt at showing my project as it comes along. I guess I should start with the intro to the truck, I have been looking ( off and on ) for the last like 10 years for a SWB for a decent price here in Colorado Springs with not much luck. I had built several trucks before and have always had the passion for Chevy trucks. One day in April 09 I was on craigslist and found this one about 150 miles from me and decided to jump on it. Although it wasn't the SWB I wanted I knew I could shorten it and since it was going to be custom I figured why not. So I rented a trailer from uhaul and headed out the next day to go pick it up. The guy I purchased it from said that he drove it home 8 years ago and started to restore it. From what I could tell it really wasn't the way I would restore such a nice truck but I guess anything was better than nothing. Here are the pictures of the AD on craigslist.

Re: Project KRZY

So I got the truck home and got it into the garage and started to tear it apart. This wasnt hard because the cab wasnt bolted in, the Engine was just the block without the heads on it. We ( me and my Cousin ) first stripped the rear end and the front cross member, the tranny cross member , and the drive shaft cross member. We put the frame on jack stands and then measured the frame to cut and re weld to make it a SWB. We cut the frame using a great guide listed somewhere on this site and supported it with 1/4 inch plate. At this point the frame went to the sand blasters because the coating on the frame was really nasty and hard to grind without gumming up the wheels. I have pictures but will need to get them from my cousin.

Re: Project KRZY

Now I am waiting on parts to show up ( Porterbuilt drop member, C-notches and four link from SD ) but im in the middle of getting the frame shaved so that I can box it. I got the rear cross member put in from Porterbuilt a couple days ago and I can honestly say Nathan is the nicest guy and his work is truly AMAZING... if I had not already ordered my four link and C-notches before had I would have preferred going to him for those. I'm still waiting on the SD stuff they must be busy. But I really liked the superlift four link they offer and the notches are not to shabby either.

Re: Project KRZY

So I just got done doing some of the firewall stripping so that I can repair the metal and do something with it. I painted the inside of the part of the frame im going to be boxing. I will hopefully get some more time tonight to cut some more stuff on the frame and maybe work on the firewall some more.

Re: Project KRZY

I have a question if anyone can help? I have seen a picture of the frame with the drop member that SD makes and the front has a replacement crossmember that sits in front of the motor? they replaced theirs with a tubular support I. Would this be strong enough or was this just for show? picture attached... of the bar in front of the drop member above the swaybar..

Thats Nate's mine does not have the Logo ether. He felt he was bragging by putting his Logo on everything he made until people started letting him know they wanted the Logo their. He has since gone back to it I believe.
