stock trailing arms
How strong are the stock trailing arms. My intention is to run stock trailing arms and coilovers outside the frame rails. I would like to build and engine that puts out 450 horse and around 500 foot pounds of torque. Will I have problems? What do you guys run?

I had a pretty healthy 385 stoker on my stock trailing arms and havent ahd any problems!!! If you are haveing bad thoughts about it just get some metal and box them in!!!!

if it is typical north eastern trailing arms... I'd be scared.
If they are clean trailing arms in good shape, then you'll be fine. |

I've got 383 stroker pushing 630TQ/620HP running stock trailing arms with zero concerns,

my trailing arms were in good shape, but I welded a fat bead along the entire length of the arms on both sides just for good measure.

i'm gonna have to agrue with every one. it depends on what your gonna do with the truck. if ya drive if on the street just smokin the tires and not hookin, your probably never have any problem with them. if you got to the track and get it hook theres a god chanve youll bend them. i've bent them at the track racing. i leave at 5200rpm droppin the clutch, mucnie 4spd. based on the et's i'd said im somewhere in the 450hp range. i went and boxed the end where the axle bolts on and welded the two channels together. no problem since then. chris.

My son was running rusty stock trailing arms in his short bed that has a slightly modified 454 in it.
One day he was play as he often does and destroyed one of them. I had a set of near rust free trailing arms out of a 67 3/4 ton and he put them in and has not had a problem. The ones from the 3/4 ton seem to be built a little stronger. Danny

I just bought nice trailing arms from Arizona with no rust. My motor is kind of weak now. I'll leave the arms alone since all my driving is street. But when I do the new motor, I'll beef them up. Still my driving will be 99.9% street. I'd like to go to the racetrack, but I've had the truck 5 years and haven't gone yet. So, I assume not much will change. Thanks for all of your input. Has anyone used the CPP trailing arm reinforcement kit?

Couldn't find my link, but there is a couple of sites in the NC area that sell take off parts from NASCAR. They use truck trailing arms and they are a lot
stronger than the stock arms. Price's use to be reasonable too. Maybe some one else will chime in with a link. |
