typical me. I was installing my new tilt column today and everything was going as planned. Then as I was putting the new shift lever in place I popped out the spring that was in there. Worse thing is that the spring didn't fall out but IN the tilt. I think I can fish the spring out with a little time but how does it go back in? Thanks in advance.

The spring fits into a recess in the shift bezel. You should be able to see the hole by looking into the shift lever opening. I would try using a small screw driver stuck between the upper coils. Once you have the spring in the hole, you can pull the screw driver out.

If you run into a problem, I do have a tilt apart right now and can look at it if you need anything else.

Jim, thanks for the response. I'm assuming that the spring fell into the lower part of the tilt.(don't know what you call it) is that reasonable? also, there is a single grey wire that has a spade connector on the end, where does this plug into? My old non tilt column had 2 or 3 connectors that plugged straight into the lower part of the column, what were these? thanks for all the help.

That grey wire is the hot wire for your shift indicator light.

I thought the shift indicator was fibre optic?

On my tilt column it is a grey wire with a spade terminal

mine is grey too, but what were the two wires that plugged into this thing on the bottom of my column. and how come my truck won't start now? the gear indicator says it's in park, but it won't turn over....? and yes, I've hooked the battery back up.

well if im correct, the deal on the bottom of your column is your neutral safety switch, we just fixed that on my friends truck after we tore apart some wiring on the firewall took the starter off 3 times and put a new batter cable on it. So check your neutral safety switch it might be broken, it may not be, we just bypassed it(not a very safe idea).
