hello everyone

I just bought a 58 Chevrolet Apache 3600 3/4 ton 4x4 long bed truck. it is a fully functional truck and i paid a pretty penny for her. the guy told me it was 1 of 100 produced with factory 4x4, whether or not thats true is a nonpoint to me. I do want to upgrade it a bit tho. I want to put power steering in it but i cant seem to find a system that would bolt in. do you guys know of a power steering system that will work? also, i want to put power brakes, is it as simple as adding a brake booster? the last thing is the tires. as far as i know its a stock suspension truck, what is the biggest tires that will fit under her?

Re: hello everyone

Can't wait for pictures, there is a web site dedicated to the old NAPCO trucks. He might be right but I thought 1960 was the first year they were made on the Chevy assembly lines. Before that they were a conversion done at the dealer or in your barn (it came as a kit). Go to the 4x4 message board on this site and search for NAPCO, there were a couple of pretty comprehensive threads over the winter about them with good links.

Thanks! the 58 is my favorite. i am prolly going to go with a mild custom setup. but nothing that cannot be put back to stock. under dash radio and a/c stuff like that. i also want to move the fuel tank to under the bed, i dont like it behind the driver seat. i may leave the tank behind the seat but do another tank under the bed. seat belts are another add on i am gunna go for. not that i have to but i just like them. the jimmy is going to be an all out custom mud truck. i bought the dakota simply because i thought it was fun looking. come to find out its 1 of 2800 built. so its got a little bit of value to it.

Re: hello everyone

Thanks everyone!
Here are my plans

Stage 1 aka Get're Goin :
New tires: Super Swampers 35x12.5, it has 33x12.5 on it. looks like plenty of room to go bigger
Fix leaks: Front Axle pinion seal, Front Axle axle shaft seals (both sides), engine oil drain plug, transmission
Drain, flush, and replace all oils and lubercants
Replace any worn suspension, brake, and driveline parts
Replace Exhaust
Seat Belts

Stage 2 aka Shine Her Up :
Replace all faded chrome...which is almost all of it (Gotta love LMC truck)

Stage 3 aka Get Goin :
Pretty basic, enjoy it for a while!

Stage 4 aka Place to tinker :
While I enjoy her for a while i am going to build a shop to prepare for Stage 5

Stage 5 aka Tear Her Down :
Top to bottom restoration and customization
Add some modern touches: A/C, power steering and brakes, Stereo system, power windows, keyless entry, complete electrical system overhaul

I may cave and do the A/C system in the first stage. It gets hot down here in South Louisiana!

yeah, it was the Leake Classic Car Auction in Tulsa, OK. I have a classic/muslce car dealership and i bought them as inventory but I cant bring myself to sell them haha! I also bought a 1957 Ranchero but I didnt get a chance to take pictures of it this morning. I love trucks and the 58 is one of my favorite bodys and the Jimmy is just a beast. The dodge i will prolly will sell. its nice but i am just not dawn to it like the other two. The Ranchero was a "order" from one of my customers so its already sold.

Re: hello everyone

Not sure how big you can go. There is a lot of determining factors.
The offset of your rims, cause your tires may rub during turning.
And your trucks ride height. Find a tire shop that is willing to work with you.
He can do the... Trial and error... keep trying tires on until you and the tire guy find the ones that fit perfect.
