'69 rear end 5 bolt conversion ?'s

I am putting disc brakes up front on my '69, 5 lug system from a newer truck. In order to swap out to 5 lug in the rear, will I have to change the rear end or can I just change the axle rods? My truck has rear coil suspension not leaf.

Re: '69 rear end 5 bolt conversion ?'s

some of the experts may correct me here if im wrong, but the 67-70 axle housings are narrower than 71 and up. best bet is to find a 71-72 coil rear to swap. im not sure here either ,but maybe just get some 6 lug rotors from one of the board vendors???

Re: '69 rear end 5 bolt conversion ?'s

Thanks for the help. Id rather go five lug all around. I had heard myself that the axles on the older trucks were wider.....anyone know how hard its gonna be to find a 71-72 coil spring rear?

i think it's Early Classic that offers axles in 5 x 5" pattern that fit your housing. You may also check with our board vendors and see if they are a re-seller for ECE products.

or you can do what i did. take your axles out, take them to a machine shop and have them redrilled for 5 lug and your center hub shaved down. I think it only cost me $60. real cheap, real easy
