Mounting Air Bags?

Just wondered if I need to mount my rear bags at ride height or in the dumped position? I have a triangulated 4-link and the axle moves forward about 3/4 inch when dumped, so I am assuming I want the bag straight up and down at ride height. Thanx for any help!

Yea, I would do it at ride hight for sure.

set it up straight laid out. otherwise the bag will pull all funky when its laid out and can cause a crimp to fail. A little offset aired up is a-ok.

have to agree with cajun. always set them up at full dump. also if you setup at "ride height" your truck may not "lay out" or go as low as intended and cause premature bag failure. also im not sure how you would even set it at ride height becasue there is no way of checking the air pressure in the bag when not mounted and without the trucks weight on it so if you set it at your thought of ride height then im almost positive the whole set up would end up being off. your ride height will be controlled by how much pressure is in your bags. good luck with your build man.

I'm kind of in the middle of you two. I mount them so that they are at a decent angle in the compressed position as well as ride height. Usually it is a compromise between the two being perfect. Most air bags can take a lot of misalignment. I generally do this more with the front end though, since the angle changes a lot more. The back, if it's close enough, I mount them perfect laid out with a 3" block.

here is a picture of one of our setups at full lift.

this another view of the same setup. notice the slight angle of the bag. this only happens at full lift, which is way above ride height. at ride height you should have very little to no angle on the bags.

here the truck is laid out. the bags are completely straight up and down, this is also how the truck is set when we setup our bag mounts.

Thanx for all the help. The bag mis alignment at dump if it is perfectly lined up at ride height is what I was worried about. I will double check my measurements and post some pix when I get the bags mounted.

Here is one I did, compressed and extended.



If it's in the back, on a long enough bar, you won't hurt the bag. So I mount them perfect when fully compressed. If the bar pulls the bag forward too much, sometimes I offset the bag on the opposite direction maybe a 1/2" when it is compressed to help bias that offset. But in most cases this is not necessary.
