Re: lmc exhaust kit...

I used it, although saved some money by getting it from JC Whitny... same kit. I got it minus mufflers.
Considering it was made for a 127 inch wheelbase truck with a chevy small block and coil springs, I should have never bought it for my 133 inch wheel base caddy powered leaf spring truck.
I didn't get to use much of it... however, I've seen good things posted about it on here by the ppl who actually figured out how to run the pipes (no instructions)

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

I bought the kit for the six cylinder. Lot of trouble fitting it together and making it work. Not what the picture showed, but once I got it somewhat together, it works okay.

Only reason I went with that is the local muffler guy quoted me almost $300! I told him to forget it, I'd do it myself. When I get a mig, I'll redo it to fit better.

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

got it on my 4x4, worked out good without any major problems. They are actually made by heartthrob exhaust. I would buy it again if needed.

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

I to got the heart throb kit- $184 shipped to the door from heartthrob - they offer free shipping- I did not get mufflers with mine so I could do what I wanted with the sound. I used it for my 4x4 and went in without issue. I would use it again.

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

I have been thinking about ordering that kit also , but I want to use a long cherry bomb glass pack, I have used the longer ones before an if you go with a 24 inch or longer really no diffrent then a turbo muffler.

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

71 Super do you have a link for Heartthrob exhaust? I can most likely find it but I'll play lazy tonight and some of the other guys probably are wanting it too. Although I've bought things through JC Whtney at that had better prices and were drop shipped from the mfg.
I would rather have custom exhaust too Special-K but the GMC is a driver and work horse and If I can do a good exhaust system on it an save a few bucks in the process I will seriously consider it.

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

I used the LMC kit with the turbo mufflers on my 68 when it was a long bed. It installed very easily, was easy to figure out what went where and how to route it, and sounded great. I welded all the connections instead of using the clamps though, and I also installed a balance tube.

It's a very good kit for the price considering how well it fit, all the pipe is mandrel bent, and they sound really good when capped off with 3.5"x 18" tips.

I'll be putting a set on Dad's 69 when we get it to that point.

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

cerjio beat me to it. I have had both custom and ot of the box and I think that the out of the box is just as good as custom at half the price especially if you can do the work yourself. Around here guys want between 3-4 hundred to do one and this fits as nice as what they put out so depending on your area your options may be different.

Re: lmc exhaust kit...

We really need a sticky about the LMC/Heartthrob exhaust kit. This comes up all the time.

FWIW, I have the Heartthrob 4x4 kit. Bolted on with no problems. The one issue I had was that my truck was a factory single exhaust truck so I had to fab up a hanger on one side of the truck. No biggie.
It was quite a few years ago so I don't remember the exact cost but it was right around $200 shipped to my front door.
