327 or 350

Hey guys I have a 350 that was rebiult 4-5 years ago that i pulled out of my 67 to rebuild and maybe beef up some. I also picked up a 68 front clip for parts and ended up with the stock 327 with 65k on it and all of the service record to boot!!! Now i'm torn on what motor to use the 327 has all the info on it and my neighbors knew the PO who was 86 when he died truck sat dince 97. Or sell the 327 with the transmision and transfercase as a whole unit and get more money out of it.
The 350 runs pretty good but i have no knowlege of its past.

Should I sell the 350 and use the money to rebuild the 327? The 327 fired right up to!

Man i had a 60 over 327 and the i had a 355 and the 355 ran so much better!!! Sell the as a whole unit and get some money together and build a sweet 383!!!!

What does it cost to turn a 350 into a 383? I have a buddy that wants to by the 327 and i'm not sure what to charge him. My father is a mechanic so labor should be cheap! lol lots of beer

My first truck (68) had a 327 in it and i loved it. I have been a fan of 327s ever since. However...my new truck also a 68 has a 350 in it and god it runs great and sounds mean as hell. I think it all depends on you. The 327 sounds like it will be a more reliable motor with less surprises in the future though.....gosh, i think i see your delima

The 327 is more correct for the '67. My '67 had a 327 in it. Very nice motor and it has a neat history. When you drive your truck, you can think of that.

Hands down the 327.

Personally I hate the 350 in a truck, since the stroke to me is dull and boring.

My 68 K20 burb has a 327 and a manual trans with 4.56 gears, and it is just a stump pullin, high revin, *****en truck to drive. But, then I am biased...

Side note:
When I pulled out my 327 to get it built, I yanked out the 350 from my 72 Camaro and stuck it in the burb. Now, keep in mind the 350 was not stock at all and was fresh.
I gotta tell ya, it was the most guttless boring engine ever, and I couldn't wait to get it out of my burb and get the 327 back in!
The 350 just wouldn't hold the revs like a 327, as in driving steep grades and pulling trailers. Meening I had to keep down shifting and up shifting, where the 327 I could leave it in 4th after a wind out of 3rd and drive with out the lugging it to slow a bitt for traffic.

The above is purely my oppinion, but I know what I like and it's the 327 over the 350 in a truck any day!

So, back to your deal.
If that 327 has never been worked on in the last 10 years, then the valve seats are for leaded fuel. Which meens running unleaded will wear them out quicker, if they aren't already set up with hardened seats.

Other than that the rest is personal choice I guess.

dang....I almost have to agree with "smoknbarrels". I couldn't imagine my truck with a small block. I know you can build a mean 383 or 406, but there are no sub for cubes.

Oh yeah....back to the post. Take that little short-stroked 327 and make er an 8K revin' some gun!!!

I have a 383 and I would trade you in a minute for your 327. I would just love to have the correct motor. I dont care about being correct most of the time but I have always wanted to put a 327 in my 67

Like has been said already, the 327 would be more correct for your truck, but there's no replacement for displacement. Guess it depends on what you want out of an engine.

I love my 327, so 327 get my vote. When ever some one asks me about my truck they assume it has a 350 the same as most Chevy trucks. It is nice to be able to be a little different. It is also interesting to me that the new trucks run 5.3 now as well. There is also no repacement for MPG's as well, thats if you drive it fairly often. I drive mine to work and back Monday through friday 50 miles round trip. With my NV3500 overdrive trany I am getting 15-19 MPG on the freeway.

I am a big fan of the 327. Even I can't explaine why.

Understanding your dilema, if it were me, I would go 327 or big block.

unfortunately i dont have enough cash to get a big block. but i have a 327. i would rather have a 327 rather than a 350. i can rev it up to 5500 and it sounds like a beast. if you try to do that with a 350, i dont know what would happen.

It would bounce off the rev limiter at 7000....

thanks guys i think i'm going with the 327 i'll sell my buddy the 350 and use the money to rebuild the 327!!! Now what would be a fair price for the 350 it all ready just some minor tuning with a newer holley hi-rise intake and a holley 650 carb both new two years ago.

Yes, but depending on the year of the 350's heads the cumbustion chambers are most likely larger than those on the 327.
I'd just work with the 327 stuff...

the 327 is the better choice for your truck for many reasons...everything you can buy for a 350 will bolt on a 327 and more importantly a 327 produces more torque than a 350 with the same cam...the difference is the stroke.the 327 has a shorter stroke....in 67 the 327 had the large journal crank so if you don't like the 327 you can drop in a 350 crank and rods or a 383 stroker kit if you want the block is the same...the 327 will spin faster..easier due to the short stroke

no difference 64-65 was a small journal crank the same as the 283 they were using for years 67 they made all small blocks standard the 327 350 used the same block with a 4 inch bore the only difference is the stroke even the heads were the same i have a 327 that i built it's 67 it came with 461 head with no accessory holes drilled i wanted to keep my ac in my 85 pick up so i went with a set of 350 heads i had laying around i talked to my machine shop and told him what i wanted and we went with a set of Keith black dome pistons to make 10 to 1 compression with the 72cc heads i never put the engine in and sold the truck so now it's going in my 70
