McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Came today. Looks pretty solid. A few scratched on bracket, nothing a little rattle can will not fix.

Came with brake hoses, ebrake and cables. Only issue is where rotor fits on axle flange will need to turned a bit to get it to go on, even the instructions say this. No big deal really.
Will update when I get the kit on.

Do they make this for 14 bolt? Where did you get it?

I got it from stylintrucks for 539.00 shipped to my door.
Not sure if they make a 14bolt version.

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Looks like a nice setup. Does it come with backing plates and a prop valve? What has to be turned on the rotor, the hub hole?

If they know this I wonder why they just wouldn't fix it at the factory?

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

I just bought the brackets for disc on a 14 bolt off of pirate4x4.com. The brackets I bought use all the front brake parts from a mid seventies chevy dana 44. I am swapping out my d44 for a d60 so for about 50 bucks I'll have rear discs.

maybe 10 bolt flanges are a little smaller than 12 bolt? Dunno, too lazy to take the drums off my 10 bolt to find out. Rotors/axles are at machine shop now ...

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Do you have any idea what the rotors fit? Are they custom made for a conversion application, or OEM replacements? I see they are drilled for dual pattern. Any idea what the other pattern is?

Ken,
I am not sure if they are custom for mcgaughys kit or not. The other bolt hole pattern I believe is 4.75.

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Well, BAD NEWS.
guy called from machine shop today, so I went down there this afternoon.
Per directions, I knew the inside axle flange hole would need to be opened up a little, BUT, even with that the rotor will not sit flat on axle flange. You can either machine the inside of the rotor, or machine the outer flange of the axle, I did not want to do either, you would end needing to take almost 7/16 of material from one or the other, or split the difference, and hope the brackets and caliper line up. I called mcgaughys, and they verified this would need to be done, but it does not say this on their site or in directions(only machine rotor hole or shaft flange on end to get it to sit over flange.)
Anyway, after much frustration, I sent them back.
Seems like I will never get this rear end done.
So just an FYI for anyone interested in this brake kit.
