Harmonic Balancer 350 vs 283???

Is there a differance between the two?? The one on the 350 fell apart, and i have one off the 283 that was blown up. I am hoping that it will work.

Thanks
vance

I believe they are both internally balanced motors. Are they the same diameter? You can usually go off of looks. An externally balance one will have a counter weight. I'm a BBC guy so let someone else chime in just to be sure but you might be okay there.

They are the same size as far as shaft and bearings, the 283 is not as think as the 350.

Thanks

thickness isn't really going to matter in an internally balanced motor. I know the one you are talking about. Looks like a crank trigger!

283 balancer will not properly dampen a 350 it would work short term, a few days, til you get a 350 balancer. The 283 may explode on high revs. Rock auto has then for about $35

cool i picked up a newer 350 balancer, the problem is that it doesnt have the little chrome piece on the shaft like my old one. Does this have to be there?? if so any ideas were to get one.

Thanks
Vance

If your old one had a repair sleeve on it you will have to put the stock seal back in the timing chain cover. If the balancer you got has a groove where the seal rides then you can go to any auto parts store an get the repair sleeve and seal
