Painting inside the cab?

The cab on my 84 still has the original brown OEM GM paint and with the exception of a couple spots on the floor is in good condition. I really don't want to gut the truck cab and strip it all down, is there a spray paint that I could spray on the floor to protect from rust, etc? I'm also wondering what kind of paint this is that GM used in 1984 (enamel, laquer??) as I'm thinking of just scuffing the inside of the cab paint with a scotch brite and spray bombing it flat black but don't want it to lift.

Re: Painting inside the cab?

Best way to tell what type of paint it is: Take a rag, get it wet with paint thinner. In a discreet area, rub back and forth a small area. If the rag turns the color of your paint, it is enamel. If it stays clear, you have base/clear lacquer.

Under the carpet, I would suggest spary on truck bed coating. It will help repel water from your shoes in rain or winter.
