My tame project
Hi guys. I have been glued to this site for a few weeks now and am lovin it!!
I bought my stepdads 72 a few weeks ago and first thing I did was pull top, back seat, floor covering and took a wire brush to right rear corner, theres was rust and a few holes, half dime size maybe and I was OMG. I started looking online and saw some of the stuff you guys tore in to and got all giddy from my pristine rig... Anyways this fall I am pulling motor to change out cracked bell housing, after driving a while starter heats up and is slow to start. My stepdad got it from his dad who special ordered it from factory so I dont want to get too crazy with it but am really tempted to strip it down to frame and coat everything and maybe a 4" lift, almost got my fat a$$ stuck when I wheeled under there on a creeper last night. Motor is a 350, bored to 355, part '72 and part '78, block and cam are 78 and possibly a few other pieces to make the marriage work. Has factory posi front and rear, A/C, 2 extra 15 gal. tanks, and will need to look at paperwork again my camera doesnt take a good pic of it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, not looking to do anything extreme on this rig, going to do that on next one this mostly R&R with a lil cleaning in between. Thanks guys. |

Re: My tame project
Yeah, I have never seen aux. fuel tanks like that. That is a nice clean rig. If it was me I would have those running boards (and the bug guard and funky antennas) off there before I took it out of the driveway.

Re: My tame project
You dont like the ol whips? But yeah after takin em off to roll on bedliner then puttin them back on I figured I'd pull em when I was set up to patch holes.
RUnning boards are gonna go too, those were off a van the ol man cut down to fit, they have served long and well but time to retire. Bug shield might just get set aside, when its time to drive it in winter the sand/gravel mix they use on the roads here tend to pepper the hell out of the nose. |

Re: My tame project
Well I was gonna wait till fall to dig in but that aint gonna work...
I think I'll start tomorrow instead. I figured I would drive it through summer but I live at work... real different than working from home btw. Since I only get 8 hours a day 3 days a week off I figure wth wait? I can expect to get 3-5 hours a day in on it anyway and use the 8 hours straight for bustamove time. One major issue I had was garage space, after extensive measuring I figure its doable, tub goes on a dolly in corner and frame goes on 4 so I can roll it around to get room. gonna be tight but wth. Started with running boards and whips, looks much better already. Oh yeah went out to see the old fart for fathers day and pumped him for info on the blazer, those saddle tanks are NOT factory installs, factory aux. tanks went underneath, I hate when I get facts mixed up. Re: My tame project
Nice looking truck, especially with the running boards pulled.
There is a meet at the XXX Root Beer Drive-in in Issaquah July 5. I believe there are a couple board members coming from the south, although they may be coming up I-5 rather than the back roads through Morton. Hope you can make it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=346492

Re: My tame project
San Pedro, Laguna. Going to stay 2 nights in Manila to adjust to time change and get reacquainted with wifey, she's been there 8 months taking care of her mother. Going to spend some time with the in-laws then find a beach somewhere to sprawl on for a while. Hundred islands is nice but too far so I'm thinking of going to Subic and seeing the memorial, and of course the beaches.

Re: My tame project
Well bro in law was 7 1/2 hours late to help me get hood off
I am starting to pull fenders so i can get in close to work at the brake stuff, it's hella rusty, and there looks to be 2 bolts at the bottom rear of fenders. Any tips on how to get in there and get em out? I appreciate any tips, thanks in advance. |

Re: My tame project
OK got camera back. I would like to know what the best way to get these 2 pieces seperated. Unless I'm out in left field without a paddle this is the only thing keeping my dash from hitting the floor.

A lil progress in the last few days. Headin out for 2 weeks to rest up and when I get home hopefully I can get things rollin a little more efficiently.
I tend to start something then get interrupted and by time I get back to the garage I get sidetracked with something totally different than what I was workin on :waah |

Re: My tame project
OK I got my motivation back!! Can anyone tell me how much the tub weighs?
I'm doing this build in a 1 car garage, isnt the best but it's what I have. I was laying in bed the other night thinking about wth I was going to do when I pulled the tub off when I had an idea. I was thinking if I got 4 sturdy saw horses and 4 8' 4x4s and lifted the tub up and went crossways with the 4x4s sittin on top of the sawhorses that would give me room to roll the frame in and out to do what I need to do. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. |
