How to attach '72 Cheyenne door panels to '71 doors? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just picked up a really nice set of original '72 Cheyenne interior door panels and was trying to attach them to my '71 doors. The original inserts are metal and are screwed in with 1/4" screws. It looks like the '72 panels have plastic push-type screws that are around 3/8" diameter. Anyone know how this is supposed to go? I would rather not drill my doors, but I will if that is how to get the panels to fit. Thanks for the help!

Could you remove the capture nuts, and find oversize fasteners to work in the square holes? They make all sizes of those christmas tree things.

The fasteners are only on the bottom four holes. The top four are just holes in metal.

the window regulators and door regulators will not work with the 72 panels, the stems are about 3/8" longer on 72s. i learned this the hard way when i put 72 panels in my 69 and tried to attatch the window cranks and door handles and they kept poppong back off. i ended up putting 72 guts in both doors. i had already drilled the holes out for the plastic push pins so i was stuck.

Yeah, I was noticing that as well. This might me more work than I'm really ready for. Plus I'm on the fence because I'd like to keep it as close to '71 interior as possible.

Unless you are in love with the '72 panels, sell 'em and get what fits the '71. If you don't like the metal panels, you can always upgrade to vinyl.
