Yea,
Before posting I tried doing research online with no luck. Even during the Vietnam conflict. I think they just carried over with the WWII trucks. But there has to be some out there that was used for something. Maybe Medics or transport for the Brass.

s11Sean11,

that's a sweet truck... nice patina.

Hey if it isn't too much to ask, what brand, and size are those tires? I would like to set mine up with some like that.

thanks,
Mondo

I could take a look I wanted to keep the wheels but they are 17.5 and I could not find any tires that would work and i do love the patina look but there was just to much rust to keep it this is what it looks like now

Re: Post Your 60-66 Chevy/GMC Military Trucks

My buddy hauled this one to the shop, then promptly lost interest(he's smarter than I am.) So I took it off of his hands.
It's a U.S.Navy truck.
I didn't know if the plate was legit or not but it matches the vin. It's grey underneath the yellow.

Re: Post Your 60-66 Chevy/GMC Military Trucks

I apologize for posting on a old thread. I've owned my 66' for little over a year and just getting to look into the subject. When I bought it there was so much that needed and wanted to do I put looking into this on back burners. On both the doors theres a Army stamp as well as under the hood. Doors have
"PROPERTY OF US ARMY
IP 7171
FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY"

and under hood has "A/F 72"

I'VE POSTED SOME PICS AND WOULD LOVE TO GET FEED BACK. IF IT REALLY WAS A ARMY TRUCK WHAT DOES THE A/F 72 MEAN?? I DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER INFORMATION, WHERE or WHO CAN I contact to get somemore background history on it?? Thanks

Neat to see some old classics form the 60's that were in the Military. Wish mine was! But mine was a ranch truck and still is! lol!

... so yeah, 5 years later I post up the pics....
this one and the one I just got are both 61 3/4 ton short steps, they have the same # on the door "us army IG 8373" I am guessing the blurred out part on the bottom says "for official use only"?... as far as I could tell "IG" stands for inspector general.
my crew was purchased by the state of Montana , and subsequently painted yellow , like this second truck pictured- you can still see the olive drab bumpers, and the dash plate.

from inspecting my truck some features to point out- paint on the kick panel tag says "spec". the grille and bumpers were painted body color. the white part around the grille on the grille support was not painted, but the black behind the grille was still there.

I have looked closer at my pics of other 61 crew cabs, and noticed olive green in the door jambs, showing that the army must have ordered a few crew cabs, and later sold them into private hands, where the green was covered up.
