intake bolts

Got a question for the masses out there, I cannot for the life of me get the two center intake bolts on my 350 to stop seeping oil?? when I removed them the first time there was no thread sealant at all on them, so I removed all the oil that was pooled up an reinstalled them with sealant, torqued them down to specs, an it worked for about a week an then I noticed the oil pooling up again, does anybody have a fix?? It is a Edelbrock Performer intake, I know it may sound fussy but it's the only leaks I have on my motor, I wanna take care of it!!! Could the PO have used too short a bolt, possibly??

Re: intake bolts

I think original bolts are 1-1/4". That is not a standard size, so most aftermarket bolt kits come with 1" bolts.

What sealer did you use? I have never had a problem using ARP teflon thread sealer.

Re: intake bolts

That is interesting. I have the same problem and the same edelbrock performer intake!

Re: intake bolts

Usually you don't torque the intake anyway, even though they do give specs for it. I had this problem on my Dodge cop car with an Air Gap intake and I put thread sealant on them when I was rebuilding the top end, never had a problem since. As long as you get the bolt pattern correct and don't overtighten your fine.

Did you go back and retighten the bolts after it was warmed up to operating temp? You may go back and try to retighten them, it would suprise you that some may be a little loose.
