How to make a piece to save my radiator support?
I was taking mouldings emblems etc.off of my cab to get it ready to paint.I removed the right inner front fender and the radiator support where the 3bolts holding the inner fender on is rusted out.I guess the battery above caused it.I hate to buy a new one if i can patch mine.I have a mig welder to do the job if i could fab a piece of metal to work.What have you used it does not have to be pretty since it is a driver.

They actually make a patch piece for that area.I don't know which vendors carry it but have seen one used.It looked good after it was repaired.The guy who did the work is a true craftsman but IIRC he claimed the piece fit very well.I would think most vendors have/could get one for you.

I've seen panels for the lower area below the battery yes..But if not caught in time the corrosion will carry below the radiator..Good idea to pull the grill, rad remove the grill support to at least be cleaned, insp, treated as it pits under that area and will eventially ruin the support.

Not familiar with welding, but can that be replaced without removing the radiator support?
I have the same prob on my suburban. Was thinking about getting a new radiator support, but the rest is in good shape, so this would save some cash. Thanks! |

The rad support should be removed when you put this piece in..
